You toss out generalities and paint with broad strokes all the while condemning the very same in others. Here is a sad truth for you, you are no different than they are. Will any of this open your eyes to your own failings? Sadly no.

So tell us WHAT should we do ?? Sit idly by and say nothing ??? Do nothing ??? With you it seems when someone speaks up, your first thought is to accuse them of being just as hate filled and bigoted as you ??

The woman that wrote the letter made it very clear she had tried to live that life. How can she be hateful and bigoted when she gave it an earnest try ??

This is just my experience, but I find the hard core Christian right exceedingly entrenched and recalcitrant. The problem is, it's not just an opinion, a thought, an idea, it's a hard held belief. More importantly it's a hard held RELIGIOUS belief. And because it's a religious belief, they are convinced that they are absolutely right, they see no need to bend or compromise. Quite the opposite, they can brook no challenge to those beliefs out fear that if they question their belief, if they compromise, they are in fact questioning God himself and compromising their very souls.

The kind of very binary world the article described is very real. My dad passed away three years ago. Mom died right after thanksgiving last year. Early this year, out of the blue I was contacted on Facebook by a cousin I hadn't seen in 40 years and honestly didn't remember. Her grandmother and my mom were the last two of that generation. She was looking for my mom, unaware that she had died.

I guess, feeling ever so slightly unmoored in the world, I accepted the invitation to attend a family reunion in March. They ARE the very epitome of the binary thinkers the woman in the article described. They are for the most part perfectly lovely people. Salt of the earth types. They have their jobs, families and houses. BUT, the biggest, most important thing in their lives is Jesus and the church, of which one of my cousins is the pastor. Of the 60 or so people in that room that afternoon, the is no doubt in my mind that some of them ARE the kind of people that would evict their own children for any number of indiscretions. My current lover, was sent to live with an aunt 800 miles away based on a LIE her bother told her parents. WHO DOES THAT ??

Luckily my parents were never that black and white, not that I gave them any reason to consider tossing me out. Hell I couldn't wait to move out on my own. But but we can talk about that mistake for another time LOL.

My observation stands despite your emotional outburst.

Great letter!!! Thank you very much for posting it.

Her very valid points about the massive moral failures of the self-righteous evangelical wackos are right on.....and more and more people are noticing this.

Worldly politics, not heavenly powers, inspire evangelicals to stick with Trump
Evangelicals worship a golden calf named Trump.

Be sure to check out the great cartoon at the top of this article.

What utter bullshit!

American Nazis, the KKK, White Supremacists, and most rightwingnuts (like you) are filled with "hatred and bigotry" for Blacks, Hispanics, Muslims, immigrants, Jews, Gays and LGBTs, and non-Christians (anyone outside their own crackpot varieties), plus anyone else they see as different from themselves.

In a moronic 'false equivalency' attempt to excuse your own and other's despicable bigotry, rightwingnuts like you try insanely to claim that the sane liberal progressive people who oppose you are "just as bad, just as filled with hatred and bigotry".....why?.....because they are opposed to Nazis? Because they stand up for the people that your kind hates and fears and wants to oppress and discriminate against? Because they oppose hatred and bigotry? LOLOL. You are a sad joke!

Moral equivalence is a form of equivocation and a fallacy of relevance often used in political debates. It seeks to draw comparisons between different, often unrelated things, to make a point that one is just as bad as the other or just as good as the other. It may be used to draw attention to an unrelated issue by comparing it to a well-known bad event, in an attempt to say one is as bad as the other. Or, it may be used in an attempt to claim one isn't as bad as the other by comparison. Drawing a moral equivalence in this way is a logical fallacy.

Ironical ain't it? Hatred and bigotry are hatred and bigotry, is that beyond you? Or are you like other posters here, YOUR hatred and bigotry are justified but if you think you see it in other people who are different than you they're "bad" people. I love the irony.
