A Picture of a Black Person Can Anger Trump Supporters and Change Their Politics

A Picture of a Black Person Can Anger Trump Supporters and Change Their Politics

Trump voters are very complex. They are conservatives who believe big government is getting out of hand. They want lower taxes for the middle class. They believe in comprehensive immigration reform. They want an economic policy that reflects the average ...

Nah, I’m just bullshitting. They just don’t like black people.

According to Vox, they could be triggered by a photograph of a black person. Although I don’t like the word “snowflake,” when a Trump voter sees a black person, they could change all their political values. Now I’m not saying they are racist, but ...

OK, I’m saying they are racist.

More specifically, a new study (pdf) by political scientists at Colgate and the University of Minnesota proves they have racist tendencies. That’s not just a popular opinion; it is a statistical fact. When researchers simply asked subjects how they felt about a not-so-complex housing assistance issue, they were split on their support. But there was a subtle twist to the study: When the information about the issue was accompanied by a picture of a white person, Trump voters were much more likely to support it than when they were cued by an image of a black person. It revealed something we knew all along:

Trump voters aren’t conservatives. They aren’t necessarily Republicans. They’re just racists.

The study revealed that when Trump voters were exposed to the “black cue,” it not only made them less supportive of the issue. It made them angry. Yes, a picture of a black man—not an actual black man, but a picture of a black man made them mad.

Matthew Luttig, Christopher Frederico and Howard Lavine, the authors of the study entitled “Supporters and Opponents of Donald Trump Respond Differently to Racial Cues: An Experimental Analysis,” wrote:

We find that white Trump supporters randomly exposed to a black (versus a white) man in the context of soliciting their support for a housing-assistance policy were more opposed to the policy, angrier about the policy, and more likely to blame beneficiaries for their situation.

The study controlled for socioeconomic status and education and found no statistical difference among white or black Hillary Clinton supporters when they were exposed to racial cues. They did not include data about black Trump supporters because Omarosa and Ben Carson were kinda busy.

Even though there are some who say, “Just because they voted for Trump and hate seeing black people doesn’t mean they’re racist” (did I mention that it was a picture? A picture, son!), numerous polls and studies have shown this before. There’s the 2016 poll showing that when white people were told that America’s white population would soon be eclipsed by nonwhites, they became more likely to support Trump.

Then there was the study that linked whites’ perception for our need to get “tough on crime” to racial resentment. And that other research that linked the government’s need to fix structural inequality to racial resentment. Don’t forget the Pew Research Center’s data showing that most Republicans oppose Black Lives Matter.
So when you see someone driving on the freeway on-ramp with a “Make America Great Again” bumper sticker on their car, feel free not to let them merge into traffic because they might be triggered by a picture of you (wait—let me make sure I included the part about a picture ... OK, I did).

I just posted it - you haven't even had time to read it, let alone go to the links.

Your "good lord" comment is duly noted and dismissed for its uniformed status.

Sorry son, your hatred has made you quite deranged. One cannot reason with someone as hate filled as you are.

One cannot reason with somebody who wants to comment on an article, complete with links, which they refuse to read.

I don't hate anybody.

You start with a premise and then quote things you think "prove" your premise. Your thinking/thought processes are juvenile at best.
ALL Trump supporters are this, ALL Conservatives are that, all Republican's think like this.

Like it or not when you post things like this you are no better than the person that says ALL homosexuals are pedophiles.

The study he posted did not say any of that. Do you have an issue with the actual study or the conclusions the researchers arrived at from their data?

I didn't say "all" anybody

I quoted an article which had a plethora of links to peer-reviewed research studies which came up with the results.

Just because YOU don't LIKE the results of these scientific research studies, does NOT mean that I hate anybody.

Tris has a point. More whites recieve Medicaid and food stamps than blacks do. Yet, the right attacks the blacks on those counts. Their politics do change when it involves a person of color. The same is true with immigration. Almost as many Europeans are in this country illegally by overstaying their visas but the hispanics are exclusively the recipients of their detestations. Right wingers don't like people of color. That makes you uneasy to hear that.

Of course there are more "white" people on the dole when just shy of 50% of the population has their hand out and now that progressives call Hispanics "white" when it suits them.

I like this:
"almost as many Europeans are in this country illegally by overstaying their visas"

What the hell is that even supposed to mean? ALMOST as many as who? Also is that supposed to be a comparison to people who are just here illegally? Kinda sounds like some CNN/kos reporting, just a hint of reality tossed in to imply one thing w/o saying anything at all.
Thanks from roastpork and guy39
