Yes, we did notice. It was during Obimbo's eight years, wasn't it.

I think Bubba meant that as long as companies are just going to have to pay fines that are a mere pittance, their profit margin is just more of a stronger reason to continue hiring undocumented labor!
Simple mathematics here: If my company makes $1,000,000 (or more) in profit annually, my shareholders are happy, and all I have to pay is a small fine for using undocumented labor, why would I stop?
Now substitute that undocumented labor with American, legal labor. What happens?
I now have to pay more in payroll taxes, share in insurance coverage costs, pay for benefits such as vacation and maybe stock options, and plenty more!
This is why I've also held the position that some Mexican, or any other immigrant didn't steal any job from any American! That job was given to them by some greedy corporate officers and owners who want to pad their pockets, that's all!

So if everyone is against hiring illegals, who is going to rebuild Houston? Florida?

There aren't enough legal workers to fill all the construction jobs, and we still don't have a mechanism for letting enough workers in legally.

So that's a real problem and a real question, anyone?

I'm fully aware of what he's trying to say. And he's partially right. But this ruling goes beyond that of a multi-billion dollar company. It represents a wake up call to the smaller illegal employers who can't afford that kind of hit.

Well now, you've posed a conundrum. Lack of legal workers because they have left the construction field because of the lack of a livable wage. So hell, lets import more people to fix that problem. Unbelievable!! What are the odd that there are enough legal workers?

Well yeah, you have no idea because, that is not what the statement is saying. Maybe you should start taking naps with your students.

I have been saying this for years....The Business' that knowingly hire ILLEGAL immigrants should be hung drawn and quartered...I have run concrete, hardwood flooring and drywall business in Pa. since 1978, the course of which I have hired a couple of hundred employees, never once did I knowingly hire an illegal, and I had beaucoup Jose's in vans come to my door looking to sub-contract from me...Standard reply...."lets see your green card first".......And yes, I had a lot of unscrupulous competition who hired these fly-by-nites...
Thanks from Hollywood and Hashtag

Same argument used to justify slavery. Brought to you from a supporter of the higher wage party.

The lawyers for Asplundh were sitting in their very luxurious offices, wearing $3000 designer suits, sipping on a 40 year old scotch, smoking Cuban cigars and celebrating that NO ONE WENT TO JAIL, that they kept the feds at bay for 8 years and a $3 BILLION dollar a year company only paid out $95 million in fines.

These douchebags had already been caught once. We need far more aggressive prosecution and more importantly far more punitive. My first move as AG would have been asset seizure pending investigation. As soon as someone realized these traitors had simply rehired the same illegals, EVERY SINGLE ORANGE TRUCK IN THE NATION as well as their headquarters would have been seized and impounded until the investigation was over. They were under investigation, we couldn't in good conscious leave them operational, and continuing to break the law, or giving them time to transfer, sell or otherwise liquidate assets now could we ??

I'd also apply the RICO laws. Massive, intentional illegal activities that surely paid for a portion of the owners and top managers PERSONAL HOMES, BANK ACOUNTS, STOCK PORTFOLIOS, so we'd need to seize those assets as well until such time as we could reliably establish either the percentage of the ill gotten gains, or that any given asset was not the result of illegal activiy.

When the company is essentially shut down, and the owners and top managers are sleeping on their third cousin's sofa because they're locked out of their homes, their bank accounts are frozen and none of their credit cards work, how long do you think it would take them to get the message, YOU DON'T HIRE ILLEGALS !!!! ?????
That has always been the crux of my argument. Until the gov't starts hitting those corporate officers in their wealth and comfort, the mathematics will guarantee that this problem will continue!
