In California, Sex Triumphs Over Death

Gov. Jerry Brown signed a bill Friday that lowers from a felony to a misdemeanor the crime of knowingly exposing a sexual partner to HIV without disclosing the infection. The measure also applies to those who give blood without telling the blood bank that they are HIV-positive.

Modern medicine allows those with HIV to live longer lives and nearly eliminates the possibility of transmission, according to state Sen. Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) and Assemblyman Todd Gloria (D-San Diego), authors of the bill.

“Today California took a major step toward treating HIV as a public health issue, instead of treating people living with HIV as criminals,” Wiener said in a statement. “HIV should be treated like all other serious infectious diseases, and that’s what SB 239 does.”

Good Lord.
Do you have any idea of how many states where this is not even illegal in the first place?
36% of states have no such statute in the first place.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crimin..._United_States

Kansas? Misdemeanor
Nebraska? No law.
Texas? No law.

This is so fucked up.

As I have said before the way the leftists are going they are just removing themselves from the gene pool.

What state was it that first started charging people that knowingly infected people w/ crimes? I want to say it was CA or NY but don't know off of the top of my head.

This is a giant step backwards. No surprise from the political ideology completely lacking in personal responsibility.

Doesn't change the fact that it's wrong.

I am all for less laws. What I don't understand is the same people who are making these moves are the same ones who are crying about guns. One would think that the protection of life above all costs regardless of someone's rights would be their priority.

Huh.

I'm just amused at how right-wingers will complain about some law being relaxed on the blue side of the aisle while they completely ignore what's going on with the red side of the aisle...

I don't ignore much of anything, if you have HIV and you don't tell your prospective partner it should be considered assault with a deadly weapon.

Then where are your complaints / stories about the states where it has never been illegal?

Why do you think your "PJ Media" failed to mention the red states I mentioned?
Thanks from imaginethat

What do you think the Freddie Mercury song was about.

he exposed a lover to HIV.

Mama, just killed a man
Put a gun against his head
Pulled my trigger, now he's dead
Mama, life had just begun
But now I've gone and thrown it all away
Mama, ooh (any way the wind blows)
Didn't mean to make you cry
If I'm not back again this time tomorrow
Carry on, carry on as if nothing really matters
Too late, my time has come
Sends shivers down my spine
Body's aching all the time
Goodbye, everybody, I've got to go
Gotta leave you all behind and face the truth
Thanks from webguy4

True, and I agree with you, its far too serious an offence to be downgraded to a misdemeanor.
However, the fact that in many states it's not classed a crime at all also needs to be addressed.
So, in my view, we shouldn't regard this as a left wing-right wing battleground, but an issue that needs to be faced by both sides, as HIV doesn't care who you vote for.
Thanks from imaginethat and webguy4
