Is there any other nation that has

a group of people tying to get rid of it's history? Just saw a news clip, with a man saying tear down the statues of Columbus...saying Columbus "killed" millions of people and set the route for the slave trade. Also, that the NY City Mayor has appointed a committee to see...what statues should be torn down. What next: all history books burned? Purge all libraries and take out any book with reference to anyone who explored in the nation, made laws in the nation, even historical documents that had influence or were written by such evil people as Jefferson??? Why stop at statues, why not all buildings put up during our past...surely someone connected to the building of them was responsible for all the misery of anyone who might have lived or worked in them.

What a picture is being given to the world, turning visions from the nation that offered more freedom than ever before known, to being one of unacceptable history. Why would anyone want to immigrant to such a terrible place??? What nation will open it's doors to all the refuges that should be flowing out of our borders? I would suggest the first in line...of those abused refugees...should be all those who want to destroy our history.

How is tearing down a statue erasing history?

This logic is stupid.

Did you have a problem with Iraqis tearing down Saddam Hussein statues after the invasion?

Or what about when German denazification?

If this is a past that Americans are not proud of, as they claim, then why keep the statues up? If White folks aren't "responsible for what they're ancestors did" then why keep the statues of ppl who committed atrocities? Doesn't make sense. Trying to move on isn't erasing history.

Of course they didn't.

Why the confederacy is considered to be something worth commemorating is beyond me.

In both your examples the statues were torn down immediately after the evil regime was defeated.....Buddha was there for hundreds of years.....Confederate and Columbus statues were also up for a significant time....What I have a problem with is current generations taking it upon themselves to obliterate history long established...Who's next??

Comparing mass-murderers and slave-owners to Buddha is ridiculous. In addition, what does the time they were removed have to do with the fact that they are "destroying history" as you claim?[/Quote]

What is your time limit for correcting the wrongs of "honoring" men who have committed atrocious acts against mankind or stand as symbol for same?

Why do Americans honour him in the first place ?
He played no part in the history of the USA
