It is (IN MY OPINION) the best kept secret in this country. Stunning beauty.

We do the drive quite a bit because we go to CO from AZ often. We stay in Moab a lot--such a neat area.
Afraid not, been up as far a southern Montana to see the Little Big Horn battle site, but not to Utah.
Thanks from Clara007

And over 1/3 of those people (1.06 million) live in just 10 cities.
Thanks for that useless information. Do you have a point?

Have you ever driven Utah Hwy. 12, that runs right through the (now eviscerated) Grand Staircase Escalante?

Please do. You won't believe your eyes, for as far as the eyes can see, and nary a road.

If you ever do, then think: Trump set this all up so that sub-bituminous coal can be mined here.

About 80 percent of my 3,260 sq mi county - which is larger than Rhode Island but with only 16,067 residents - is federally owned.

You know what that means?

More than 2,600 sq mi don't have a single No Trespassing sign posted.

Curious, so will ask, can you hunt or fish on it, how about camping or building a fire to rest by? Are the any restrictions on off road vehicles, where you walk/hike etc?

Also, if there is tribal land within your area, is it open to the public?

The Ute Mountain Ute Tribe (the name they chose) has some private land, kinda nice land too. It's private land.

Various user groups - ranchers, hunters, OHV enthusiasts, dirt bikers, XC skiers, snowmobilers, horseback riders, mountain bikers, anglers, hikers, campers, and firewood gatherers have actually worked together to ensure the various land users don't negatively impact other land users.

Imagine that!

Hiking, hunting, horseback riding, angling, and camping are permitted universally, with some few areas off-limits to firewood gatherers.

Campfires are permitted everywhere unless a fire ban is in effect because of dry conditions. It's rare, but it happens.

Off-road vehicles and mountain bikers are restricted to existing roads and trails. Snowmobilers and skiers use different terrain, to not interfere with each other.

It's a sweet deal all around.
Thanks from Hollywood

I love how the leftists cry about fascism this and trump that when their god king, O-bomber. Lord of the drones acted more like a fascist dictator than trump has had a chance to they applaud it.

But hey, He did things that they liked...like confiscate lands for the state and murder brown people by the thousands.

Leftists.

Ruled by DC: Get the Feds Out of Western Lands

Quote:

In the final days of his administration, President Obama has decided that with the stroke of pen, he shall further consolidate direct federal control over lands within Western states. Specifically, Obama created the Bear Ears National Monument and the Gold Butte National Monument in Utah and Nevada, respectively. The Obama Administration claims that Obama's unilateral edict was necessary because Congress had not passed any legislation on the matter.

Indeed, the Obama-appointed Interior Secretary stated that "protecting the area using legislation would have been preferable" but that in the absence of legislation, it was necessary to simply declare the lands to be National Monuments.

In other words, the democratic, constitutional process of Congressional lawmaking was inconvenient for the President. So, he decided to rule by proclamation instead, giving the Governor of Utah barely an hour's notice before the proclamation was made public.

I don't think we have driven Hwy 12, but I'll mention that to Mr. Clara. He loves a good road trip!

Every time Prez Dotard reverses one of Obama's EOs I think about that Correspondent's Dinner when then Prez Obama "splattered" Donny all over the rug. I think that most of this retribution started there...and that includes running for president.

Look on the bright side, all this is coming back, and he'll have to go through congress, and if the court cases drag on for a while, and this doesn't get to congress till after the mid terms, it might never happen.
