I think we are either respectful people or we are not. I think there is a problem with being disrespectful and believing someone else is responsible for our behavior. I think being disrespectful leads to people being disrespectful and that this makes matters worse. Why do you seem to think it will make things better?

Isn't this a matter of culture? If we agree it is okay to disrespect each other, that is a social agreement, so that is what people will do. If we agree it is not okay to disrespect each other, sooner or later the social pressure to be respectful will prevent being disrespect.

In another thread, a few people are complaining about the decline in society, they are saying they would like a return to good manners. You can promote disrespect or good manners. What you choose you to do is not under the control of someone else. It is about your character not the character of someone else.

This was kind of my point here. Men calling women whores is unacceptable. Women calling women whores should be even more unacceptable. Another group I'm part of consists of several women (all self professed feminists) who take great joy in running amok calling Melania Trump a whore. I think a big chunk of feminism is also about respecting and not degrading each other. We can disagree or even not like one another without calling each other "fat," or "ugly", or "whores". I mean, don't we already go through enough?

Men in Hollywood and men in politics have been called out on for saying degrading things about women. Why aren't the women held accountable for the same exact behavior?

As far as 'what good does it do'? My husbands brother is a great deal like sensible when it comes to his attitude towards women. It took him a few years to learn that his 'tea glass rattling', 'finger snapping', telling me that I 'need to learn to mind' bullshit wasn't going to work with me. Now he avoids me like the plague.

I treat everyone the way I would like to be treated until they prove that they are not deserving of that consideration.
