The article ALSO says they raised wages THREE YEARS AGO. First to $9 an hour, then to $10 an hour. It also says in many states they were ALREADY paying $11 or more an hour due to state minimum wage laws. So, those employees that were not already covered by state min wage laws got a $1 an hour raise. Now where I went to school that's 10%.

Your assertion that they suddenly received a 22% raise due entirely to the tax rewrite is, at best, a stretch of the truth.

You are talking state min wages at $10, not WalMart policy. WalMart policy changed from $9 to $11. 22%

And I didn't claim it was because of the tax bill, WalMart did.

Next?

NO SIR, what I'm saying is that Walmart HAD ALREADY raised their minimum to $10 an hour. TWO YEARS AGO. BEFORE Trump was elected and long before the tax bill was passed.

They've been battling a bad reputation as an employer. When a sizable portion, if not majority, of your full time employees QUALIFY for food stamps and other government assistance, tell me WHO is benefiting from our tax dollars ?? It ain't the employees. WE, you and I, the tax payers of the nation have been SUBSIDIZING Walmart for DECADES !! And with the new tax rates WE WILL CONTINUE TO DO SO FOR SEVERAL MORE DECADES.

Giving their employees a few crumbs, out of the BILLIONS they will see in tax relief, it just pure publicity.

Then you're a fucking MORON who didn't read HIS OWN FUCKING LINK !!!!

The wage increase comes three years after Wal-Mart’s last big labor outlay, spending $1 billion in 2015 to lift starting hourly pay to $9 and then to $10 the following year
And they STILL don't have paid vacation !!!

Walmart will see a tax reduction of MORE THAN TWO BILLION DOLLARS. That's on top of the TWO BILLION dollars they already receive in state and local tax abatements. It DOES NOT INCLUDE what their employees received in food stamps and other government aid programs. So it's not like they're going to miss the few extra crumbs they're throwing their employees.

Walmart is a SHITTY fucking company. Always have been. This little publicity stunt is just them trying to polish their terrible image and suck Trumps dick.
Thanks from imaginethat

The $10 kicks in after a training period. Initial rate was $9, now $11 from day one.

Seems ONE of us is a moron, and it isn't me.

The big-box retailer announced Thursday it will increase its starting wage rate for hourly employees in the U.S. to $11, and expand maternity and parental leave benefits. Currently, Walmart's starting wage is $9 until workers complete a training program. Then, they receive $10.

Other announcements from WalMart on benefits workers will get AS A DIRECT RESULT OF THE TAX BILL:

Quote:
But, broadly, associates in the U.S. will share in tax savings through:

A one-time bonus benefiting all eligible full and part-time hourly associates in the U.S. The amount of the bonus will be based on length of service, with associates with at least 20 years qualifying for $1,000. A discrete one-time charge will be taken in the fourth quarter of the current year to account for the bonus; qualification will be determined before the end of the month and payments will be paid as quickly as practical thereafter.

An increase in Walmart’s starting wage rate to $11 an hour, effective in the Feb. 17, 2018, pay cycle. The change is in addition to wage increases already planned for many U.S. markets in the coming fiscal year. The increase applies to all hourly associates in the U.S., including stores, Sam’s Clubs, eCommerce, logistics and Home Office.

An expanded parental and maternity leave policy, providing full-time hourly associates in the U.S. with 10 weeks of paid maternity leave and six weeks of paid parental leave. Salaried associates will also receive six weeks of paid parental leave.

Walmart will provide financial assistance to associates adopting a child. The adoption benefit, available to both full-time hourly and salaried associates, will total $5,000 per child and may be used for expenses such as adoption agency fees, translation fees and legal or court costs.

It may interest their American employees to know that their UK equivalents get paid £8.50 an hour (which is $11.67 in US dollars) and are entitled to 28 days paid vacation.

See there. You went out and found AN ENTIRELY DIFFERENT article to post. One that says things differently than the original article you posted. SO OK NEW HIRES are getting a 22% raise NOT THE REST OF THE COMPANY !!!

It's STILL FUCKING BULLSHIT AND PROPAGANDA !!! Existing employees get at best $1 an hour or they GET NOTHING AT ALL if they live in a high min wage state or have been with the company long enough to earn raises.

So the head lines are VERY MISLEADING, as ONLY new hires are reaping the new min wage.
