Fox News at it's WORST

Have you seen this? Maybe not because it's been removed.

Fox News pulls executive's op-ed piece ripping 'Darker, Gayer' U.S. Olympic team

Fox News removed an op-ed column from executive John Moody entitled, “In Olympics, let’s focus on the winner of the race — not the race of the winner,” which suggested the U.S. Olympic Committee apparently “would like to change” its motto from “Faster, Higher, Stronger” to “Darker, Gayer, Different.”

Moody’s piece, according to excerpts captured by Deadspin, railed against a USOC official who recently celebrated the diversity of this year’s delegation, punctuating his point with this flabbergasting point:

“Unless it’s changed overnight, the motto of the Olympics, since 1894, has been ‘Faster, Higher, Stronger.’ It appears the U.S. Olympic Committee would like to change that to ‘Darker, Gayer, Different.'”

John Moody, meet straw man. Straw man, meet John Moody.

Moody, of course, missed Jason Thompson’s recent point to USA Today. The USOC director of diversity and inclusion said that, while the diversity of this year’s delegation still isn’t reflective of the U.S. population, “it is a good start when it comes to diversity. If people see themselves reflected there, it is not necessarily that they will become an athlete, they might just become a fan.” In other words, a diverse delegation encourages athletes and fans of different ethnicities to participate in the sport, creating broader interest and competition, which could, in turn, create a stronger U.S. Olympic team.

I agree with the op-ed...focus on the activities, the winners etc and not on race sexual preferences of the members. It is the activities, successes and losses, people turn on to see.

The first picture I saw of the beginning ceremonies, was a "gay" member. Then, we thought...is this going to be the coverage and IF SO we will lose all interest.

Intolerance sucks. Why should Olympic officials and the media have to obey this guy ?

The fact that there is actually a "director of diversity and inclusion" is all that i need to know.

I wonder if it's office is by the ambassador of feelings and safe spaces.

So were gays and blacks substituted for white athletes that had better times, better scores?
Or are the people on the team, the top qualifiers?

The questions that will never be answered, if this "diversity" thing is the focus. How do other nation's and their media talk about their team members? Are they a team member or recognized by skin color etc? Are they...say "black" French or "gay" Italian or "white" Chinese?

& now a word from our sponsor

I'm probably not the guy to ask. Since the Berlin games (1936 CE?), it seems to me that a virulent form of politics or sheer greed &/or power lust drives the games - picking the location, the supplicant countries wining & dining (& darker incentives, women, men, boys, money, kickbacks - hardly Olympic-level celebrations of virtue under any definition). Think the USSR, drugging or hyping or amping their athletes to the max, in order to reflect glory on the New Soviet Man (or Woman).

E. Germany & possibly the rest of the Warsaw Pact countries, China possibly, the horrors we've recently discovered in some US training camps & doctors who abused their positions of trust for the sake of serving their own private demons. It's not worth it, in my opinion - the sacrifice of young athletes for a shot @ fleeting, transient glory.

What the World gets in return seems to simply be a chance to flog cars, trucks, vacation resorts, yadda yadda yadda - none of which is worthy of traducing the virtue of a single athlete.

My fix would be to return the Olympics to an amateur event, with no money changing hands @ all. Let those who wish to compete do so - for their own private ends. There's far too much PR clogging the electronic arteries of the World as it is, hardening the comms of the World with ridiculous fluff. & more importantly, precluding serious discussions (& studies & experiments & actually fixing the problems) that need to take place about agriculture, clean water, education, healthcare, manufacturing, the limits of technology, resource allocation, population growth, declining crops, declining seafood production ... (it's a very long & urgent list).
