Trump Announces Steel And Aluminum Tariffs

After giving corporations and the wealthy a huge tax break, Don the Con just gave the little people a huge consumer tax increase.

Trump announces steel and aluminum tariffs Thursday over objections from advisers and Republicans

President Trump on Thursday said he had decided to impose punishing tariffs on imported steel and aluminum in a major escalation of his trade offensive, disappointing Republican congressional leaders and inviting retaliation by U.S. trading partners.

Speaking at the White House, the president said he had decided on tariffs of 25 percent for foreign-made steel and 10 percent for aluminum.

“We’ll be signing it next week. And you’ll have protection for a long time in a while,” the president said. “You’ll have to regrow your industries, that’s all I’m asking.

The announcement capped an on-again, off-again episode with the president initially expected to announce the trade action on Thursday morning only to cancel amid a fierce pushback from opponents. Trump acted following a determination by the Commerce Department earlier this month that rising import volumes threatened U.S. national security.

The vast majority of Canadian steel and aluminum exports go to the US.

The Canadian market dropped 0.3% today. The Dow dropped 1.7%.

I wonder why.

Well, let's see.......

Ditch air quality regs.

Ditto fore water regs.

Ease regs on coal holding ponds and other solid mining wastes.

Shitcan the Clean Power Plan.

Just say no to limiting methane emissions.

Slap a 25 percent tariff on steel imports.

MAGA.

Lets see.

Did not "ditch" air quality or water quality regs. Big over statement on your part. He eased regs put in place by Obama

Eased mining regs. put in place by Obama.

Shit can clean power plan. Thank goodness for Trump!

Methane emissions. Fine.

Why those things were lumped into this topic on tariffs is beyond me. They do not belong here.

Tariffs on Steel and Aluminum is a bad idea. This is something I do not like that Trump is doing. I am surprised you do not like it however.

It is China has one of the fastest growing economies in the world.. They have Tariffs on US Goods.

Japan has one of the strongest Motorcycle industries in the world. They have 100% tariff on Harley Davidsons exported to Japan..

Hmmm Maybe you might rethink that.

Rethinking it will not make it work. The tariff will simply cause all products to cost more here. This will cause inflation and will slow the economy.
