Maybe we should pay more attention to these teen deaths

Is anyone calling for phones to be abolished? Or the companies making them, are they being vilified?

This is not trying to minimize teen deaths by gun but seriously it's a bigger killer,

11 teens die every day as a result of texting while driving.
According to a AAA poll, 94% of teen drivers acknowledge the dangers of texting and driving, but 35% admitted to doing it anyway.
21% of teen drivers involved in fatal accidents were distracted by their cell phones.
Teen drivers are 4x more likely than adults to get into car crashes or near-crashes when talking or texting on a cell phone.
A teen driver with only one additional passenger doubles the risk of getting into a fatal car accident. With two or more passengers, they are 5x as likely.

Thanks for posting this. And it's more than texting and dying while driving.

Smartphone Detox: How To Power Down In A Wired World

If the Russian psychologist Ivan Pavlov were alive today, what would he say about smartphones? He might not think of them as phones at all, but instead as remarkable tools for understanding how technology can manipulate our brains.

Pavlov's own findings from experiments he did more than a century ago, involving food, buzzers and slobbering dogs offer key insights into why our phones have become almost an extension of our bodies, modern researchers say. The findings also provide clues to how we can break our dependence.

Pavlov originally set off to study canine digestion. But one day, he noticed something peculiar while feeding his dogs. If he played a sound like a metronome or buzzer before mealtimes, eventually the sound started to have a special meaning for the animals. It meant food was coming! The dogs actually started drooling when they heard the sound, even if no food was around.

Hearing the buzzer had become pleasurable.

That's exactly what's happening with smartphones, says David Greenfield, a psychologist and assistant clinical professor of psychiatry at the University of Connecticut.

When we hear a ding or little ditty alerting us to a new text, email or Facebook post, cells in our brains likely release dopamine one of the chemical transmitters in the brain's reward circuitry. That dopamine makes us feel pleasure, Greenfield says.

"That ping is telling us there is some type of reward there, waiting for us," Greenfield says.

Does it matter when it kills that many children, don't you care.

In answer to your question yes they can call while driving also, which is also distracted driving.

Are phones designed to inflict the maximum amount of tissue damage possible like assault rifles and high velocity rounds ? So glad you never point the finger to whataboutism. Stupid analogy IMO.

The facts are phones cause more deaths, I already said it wasn't about minimizing gun deaths.

If it's about the children well let's talk about it.

Are phones designed to protect you and your family?

When seconds count the police are minutes away.

This is a technical solution, rather than something political that can be ignored by those who don't care what the laws are.
