Trump Threatens China With Additional $100 B Of Tariffs; China Ready To Fight

Ratchet, ratchet, ratchet.....

I'll give DJ credit for attempting to right some longstanding wrongs with China. But the timing probably couldn't be worse: Trump's pitting the debt-ridden US on credit life support against the world's premier economic powerhouse.

We'll see....

Trump Threatens China With Additional $100 Billion Of Tariffs; China Ready To Fight

China's government on Friday hit back at President Trump's latest call for more tariffs by saying it was prepared to "follow through to the end and fight back resolutely."

President Trump upped the ante in his trade dispute with China Thursday by signaling his willingness to impose more tariffs than previously announced.

As NPR's Scott Horsley reports, Trump is ratcheting up the tit-for-tat with China over trade by asking his trade representative to consider tariffs on another $100 billion worth of Chinese imports.
"Neither Trump nor Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer immediately ordered tariffs. But the bellicose rhetoric from the White House represents an escalation in the tense trade standoff.

"Earlier, Trump had suggested to an audience in West Virginia that an all-out trade war might be avoided.

"Trump said, 'In many respects, I think we're going to have a fantastic long-term relationship with China. But we have to get this straightened out. We have to have some balance.'

"Chinese tariffs on pork and nuts and a threat of tariffs on soybeans have already depressed farm prices in the US. Trump ordered his agriculture secretary to come up with a plan to protect U.S. farmers, though he did not say what that might involve."

He is running our country like he ran his failed businesses. Bankruptcy, refusal to pay contractors and attack lawyers. In this case, he is stroking his ego at the cost of the American people’s future. His tit for tat attitude towards China is all about his fragile ego. The country be damned.

And here is China’s response;

China vows to fight US 'at any cost' as trade spat worsens

WASHINGTON (AP) — China vowed on Friday to fight the U.S. “at any cost” after President Donald Trump proposed slapping an additional $100 billion in tariffs on Chinese goods in an escalating trade dispute between the world’s two largest economies.

Trump’s surprise move Thursday to instruct the U.S. trade representative to consider the additional tariffs came a day after Beijing announced plans to tax $50 billion in American products, including soybeans and small aircraft, in response to a U.S. move this week to slap tariffs on $50 billion in Chinese imports.

In Beijing, the Commerce Ministry said China doesn’t want a trade war — but isn’t afraid to fight one. “China will dedicate itself to the end and at any cost and will definitely fight back firmly” if the U.S. persists in its “protectionism,” the ministry said in a statement.

Trump’s proposal intensified what was already shaping up to be the biggest trade battle since World War II. Global financial markets had fallen sharply as the world’s two biggest economies squared off over Beijing’s aggressive trade tactics. They calmed down Wednesday and Thursday on hopes the U.S. and China would find a diplomatic solution but slid Friday after Beijing said it would fight the Trump administration’s latest threats.

Trump's method is to bully nations and to instill fear at home. This is also the way of the totalitarian dictator. I think he's a "wannabee". All signs point that way. But his bullying and threatening will not advance us.

Something I find amusing, actually. China is taking the US to a WTO "court".

This is how he behaved with his failed businesses. Bankruptcies and refusals to pay contractors lead to them not wanting to do business any further with this con man. Using our country’s reputation to stroke his fragile ego will only hurt the American people. He only cares about himself.
