Does anyone else see the IRONY in this ????

Ryan had proposed RAISING the retirement age to receive full social security, then retires at the ripe old age of 48 !!!
Thanks from Camelot

How and why did Paul Ryan get so much prominence and power in the first place. Young guy in his 40's, nominated Vice President, became Speaker of the House, when all the Speakers I knew before were there forever and older than dirt. Maybe not Boehner, but the other Speakers I know we're in their 60's and 70's.

To me, he is just very average. Seemed to me a small town lawyer who got lucky in politics some kind of way. He is sort of a gangly, weird looking dude with a Eddie Munster haircut, weird eyes and alien arms. Sort of the question, why was he such a star versus a hundred other guys.

Got to give it to him, he was Speaker of the House and that is a big time office, and a lot of Comgressmen in history wanted the position but could never attain it due for being the minority party or being weird. I think Louie Gohmert should be the new Speaker, he's hilarious. Won't happen but doesn't hurt to wish.

You've got Ryan pretty well figured out. Small town (Janesville, WI) boy does good--with lots of help, his father's survivor's benefits, and little luck. He's not an attorney. He got a BA in economics and poly sci. An Irish Catholic family--Ryan went to parochial school. He was the youngest of four kids. The typical popular kid in HS--president of the junior class-prom king--sports.
When he was 16 he found his father dead of a heart attack--saved the SS survivor benefits which paid for college. He was a frat boy.
With family connections, he worked as an aide for U.S. Senator Bob Kasten (W)
and started writing speeches for Jack Kemp.
In 1998 his rise began. Reelected 8 times. He's been in politics too long and of course politics has probably ruined him--in some ways. I'm glad he's getting out.
