WHOOOOPPPTEEEEE DOOOOOOOO !!!

Out of more than 6000 charter schools this little group ALL OF THEM IN VERY ALLFUENT AREAS, top the list. The TRUTH is, the public schools in those areas probably perform very well. The other issue is that MOST of these schools are run by ONE corporation.

Charter schools can PICK AND CHOOSE which students they accept. So they ONLY get the cream of the crop. Easy to look good that way. They also DON'T REPORT the drop out rate for anyone except seniors. The TRUE attrition rate at charter schools is MUCH higher than traditional schools who are forced to accommodate needy, the at risk, and or special needs student. Most charters do not, or only offer limited slots.

It's easy to look good when you can pick and chose your student body, when you don't have to report the ACTUAL attrition rate, when you don't have to deal with or put any extra effort into at risk, or special needs kids. And when you buy advertising in the magazine that rates you !!!

@Bubba

That is most definitely not the 'truth'. The problem is, poorly (to non-existent) educated people are in the high majority and, due to the depth of ignorance, are clueless to how much they are not properly educated on and the difference it is making in their life. Those who have some real, solid education have some appreciation for how limited their education is, the importance of continuing it, and the effect it is and has had on their life.

None of those tiny charter schools could hold a candle to the first tax supported public school in the world, still in operation today, and probably the best high school in America.
Boston Latin School.

So having lots of money, being able to carefully vet the applicants and being able to kick out the shitheads leads to better results.

Wow. Color me 15 shades of surprised.

You've missed my point there Mathy. There is MONEY to be made in these charter schools. Otherwise, CORPORATIONS would not be running them.

Now if I'm going to open a Charter school I'm NOT going to open one in some crime ridden inner city urban area. Even though, those areas are the ones that NEED the better school. SO hell naw. I'm going to open one in THE most affluent area of the city I can find. That way I can pick from the cream of the crop from the local kids rather than having to deal with the dregs of society, the delinquents, the other special needs or at risk children, you know ?? the ones THAT ACTUALLY NEED the better schools to break the cycle of poverty and violence.

My point is, these CORPORATIONS have moved into the most affluent areas, set up their charter schools, then cherry picked the very best students from what were already decent to high performing high schools in the area.

Let's take these schools and move them OUT of their cosseted little bubbles of affluence. Let's have them set up schools in the 5 worst neighborhoods in Phoenix - Central City, Maryvale, Estrella, South Mountain, Alahambra.

Let them open schools in the SOUTH SIDE of Chicago !! Harlem NY, south central LA. THEN lets see what happens to their numbers.

I have no doubt they are good schools. But it's very easy to excel when you can recruit the best students from what are already decent schools. And when you don't have the challenges of dealing with crime, over crowding, and all the other issues that come with inner city low income schools.

The TRUTH is most charter schools DO NOT out perform their public counterparts. Many have been closed for that very reason.
Thanks from imaginethat

On top of all the other points here, parents who send children to these schools are, by definition, more involved in their children’s education. One of the best indicators to how well a child will do in school is how involved their parents are.

So High Schools where less than half the students graduate are the "best in the Country"?

That's sounds like flawed criteria to me....
