I'm afraid that these type of Spam attacks are fairly common on all forums these days and there is little the owner can do except increase the number of moderators and hope that they remove the spam accounts as quickly as possible.

Histrionic in computer argot and old tech. Send them to school and buy them books, and they eat the books.

edit: Spammers can be defeated. IT only has to send us a secret snail mail with the secret number only 10 to the power of 12. No secret number, no entry. Tell IT don't make the secret number, Prime.

Okay, I know nothing about spam attacks even if I wanted to mount one myself! I was just kidding around and wondering why this "Chip" doesn't pay attention to a site he's hosting.

I looked at Historum before/but never waded in and signed up as a member! I considered it, but I wondered if I would find myself trapped in a silo where the only discussions are historical. Sometimes I like to get in to the subject, but a long time ago, I noticed when I was on "religiousforums.com" I spent most of my time on the political subforms and disregarding the religion and atheist arguments. Then, when I joined the original "Political Forums" I found myself drifting away from the wide range of political and geopolitical discussions and arguments, and spending most of my time on the religion and philosophy subforums! So, I figured what I was looking for were general, all-purpose forums that don't have dozens of sub-forum silos to compartmentalize and segregate topics.

There are so many political and economic issues that cannot be properly understood without any cross-referencing, not to mention adding in the impacts that environment and resources have/but are similarly silo'd into separate stand-alone categories when presented by mainstream media today.

Isn't there captcha + 2 step authentication? Most bots would get filtered out this way. I know you have the ability to delete individual posts and assign points, but is there no purge perm set up? As in a one click button that deletes all a user's threads/posts and bans them?

FTR, Chip owns or at least is the administrator for one other political discussion site.
Thanks from Twisted Sister

IT asked me what I thought about USMB. I disparaged USMB and said DTT is where it is at. Chip may own USMB because IT said USMB is just as good as DTT. My username on USMB is xband.

Yes, and redcoat on Armchair General.

Historum was hit really hard a year, year and half ago with the same Korean spam until Chip finally showed up and increased the moderators.

Armchair General was hit really hard two years ago, but luckily at that time, they had a lot of what they call Supermoderators on hand, and there was a pitch battle for about two weeks where you can see the spam threads being deleted as fast as they were posted, and the spambots being banned as new ones registered. They switched to an email verification system for registration.

They are spambots. They self replicate and have sleepers here right now.

Yep. These guys don't realize how strict Historum is. People don't even have to use bad language, just a rude tone will get someone banned.

Bots can break any captcha. Only an email verification that is authenticated and acknowledged by someone here is foolproof.
