The average "tariff" on US goods entering the EU is 3%. Woooo...that's going to bankrupt us.

The issue is the the halfwit in the Oval Office is conflating "tariff" with "VAT" (Value Added Tax). VAT is charged against goods imported into the country and on good made in the country. In other words...the "tariffs" the orange haired monkey is crying about are also applied TO THE GOODS THEY MAKE IN THEIR OWN COUNTRIES. The VAT results in a net sum of "zero" when it comes to putting American companies at a disadvantage in the EU.

So Trump is lying....again. Or...just really, really ignorant. Both are probably true

Trade war won't work with China, they take a long view, and China isn't worried about elections in 5 months.
Trump can threaten and bluster, but they know his resolve is limited by the upcoming elections.
Trump has a history of screwing up any deal that has a bit of complexity to it.
China puts a tariff on soybeans, they buy Russian soybeans instead, pouring hard currency into Russia, undermining sanctions on Russia.
Hey wait, Vladdy likes that , and he's the boss....

Facts aren’t partisan. There is no “coincidence” between the Internal Revenue Act and the steps that led to World War 1. You made up shit, I se you straight.

I have been respectful, only to get the very emotional posts you speak of, been called every name in the book, and been wished evil upon me by the board sodomite. Spare me your outrage until you can point that fat little finger at those on the liberal progressive side of the aisle, who started the name calling and emotional posting.

Import tariffs are actually a form of tax on goods sold in the US.
Trump knows that imposing new taxes is unpopular, so he tries to hide them behind tariffs.

If you try to calculate how much revenue the US will get, it is approximately 20 billion dollar, suspiciously close to the cost of the wall.

I object to all disrespectful post equally, friend or foe and I loose friends because of this. It will be a new day when everyone gets all those pokes and jabs, stir emotions and destroy reasoning and I want my grandchildren and their children to have a better world.

I know I am being fanatical about Nazi Germany, but I understand it was not democracy or Christianity that separated us from being as Nazi Germany. It was culture and social order that separated us and it was education that made our culture and social order different. To defend our liberty we must understand self-government begins with governing self. We must agree that good manners are important or we will be destructive. It doesn't matter what the other person is. What matters is how we govern ourselves.

I must point out his hypocrisy. He claims to always post respectfully and then calls people names like "sodomite", which is clearly not a compliment. I have him on ignore precisely because he can't respect others. For a "Christian", the golden rule does not seem to be anything he's aware of.

DID ANYONE NOTICE THE VALUE OF MONEY WAS IN QUESTION JUST BEFORE WWI? HOW THE DIFFERENT NATIONS WANTED THE VALUE OF MONEY FIGURED VARIED DEPENDING THE NATION'S SUPPLY OF GOLD AND SILVER.

Quote:
In 1872 and 1873 Germany, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and later Holland, demonetized silver.
Having a good economy is a constant juggling act. A nation's wealth can depend on the agreed value of silver and gold or the value of fiat money.

Quote:
Fiat money is currency that a government has declared to be legal tender, but it is not backed by a physical commodity. The value of fiat money is derived from the relationship between supply and demand rather than the value of the material from which the money is made.

The value of the dollar depends largely on the world's demand for dollars and our own gross national product. We do not want to destroy the demand for dollars, nor harm our gross national product.

When figuring the value of fiat money its value can suddenly collapse, like the King's reputation when everyone realizes the King has no clothes and is strutting around in his underwear. That plays into things like trade wars and the reaction to tariffs. What is happening right now is very serious.

I like several posts and TupSum's statement about Trump wanting to keep taxes low and thinking using tariffs for revenue is the good way to keep taxes low. I can see the reasoning of that, but is that good reasoning? If you think it is good reasoning, explain why. If you think it is bad reasoning explain why. Focus on reasoning, not derogatory statements but "those people".

Of course it's bad reasoning. History has already shown that this is not a good path to follow. I'm not sure what other evidence anyone could need.
