The really bad thing about relying on tariffs for revenue is that he will never back down or reduce them. How could he, it will mean fiscal bankruptcy. It is not about punishment of bad behavior anymore or protecting some industry or even national security. It is about his budget survival. So he will try to impose as many tariffs as possible.

In the end he will probably go ahead and impose tariffs on just about anything that gets imported in the US.

It is a regressive tax, it will affect the middle class and the poor, because they will consume the goods with tariffs. The rich will not be affected at all.

It is not one or two people, but a larger social problem with serious political ramifications. Even someone I highly respected and who agreed with me from the beginning that respect is important has been very disrespectful because the culture here has embraced disrespect as clever, witty, fun and being disrespectful has been away to climb the popularity ladder.

Some believe that posting here is just about entertainment completely disassociated with responsibility for self-government.

All of that is immature and I suspect education for a technological society with unknown values has resulted in people's bodies aging without them becoming mature and independent, good citizens in a nation that depends on adults understanding self-government begins by governing self. I think our nation is in crisis. That is why I object to the culture of selfish, childish popularity that is destructive to reasoning.

Okay, but we have neglected history in our education for technology and generations have not been prepared with knowledge for citizenship because the Military Industrial Complex is like the Borg, not at all like the democracy of responsible individuals we defended in two world wars.

Our nation is in crisis because of overwhelming ignorance and dependency on authority (expertise). Give us the history of the path we are on. Pretend you are addressing a university class, preparing them citizenship with information about tariffs and international agreements.

I have several times in this forum. It just gets me ignored or called a socialist. It's ridiculous. I see no point in posting it again, but here you go:

Got to pay for that upperclass/corporate tax cut somehow!
