Tariffs Could Lead to Economic Depression

Our economic situation is not so different from global warming. An unstable weather pattern could be dangerous and have unwanted consequences.

Quote:
In the post-Cold War era, developing countries (most of the world, even when you exclude China and India from this group) have built their economies following prescriptions from economists in the West.

Technocrats have subscribed to The Economist, scrutinized the Financial Times, and heeded the mantras from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank with religious devotion.

Now they have been forced to change—suddenly. The developing countries have been forced to recognize that the world is often fickle, and economics more so.

Now the citizens of developing and developed counties alike could discover that America’s sudden preference for reciprocal tariffs could lead to another major financial crisis.

If history is an indicator, we're in for a very rough ride, and soon.

It could also lead to more equal and fair tariffs, for all nations.

Not likely. This is not anything new. It's been tried before and led to the great depression.

Tax Asia and Europe out of business. Asia and Europe don't like GMO grain and that is what we grow in Central Ohio.

What is your point? Do you think it is a good thing to destroy the economies of other nations? Or are meaning other countries are unfair to the US?

Do you mean GMO food is good for us and there is no risk? Time for yet another thread.

How does that help Ohio? BTW, I don't buy that garbage either.

Here's an idea- grow things that people want.

Bullshit, plain and simple. Dotard and his Trumpanzees are about the only people in the world who believe that.

Ever read anything other than Breitbart and the equivalent?

I have to confess, I thought the protectionism was a good thing until Trump took the protectionist steps and the news reports from the world. I thought spreading our wealth around the world, increasing consumerism around the world, was the dumbest thing we could do. We live on a finite planet. How smart can it be to consume it even faster?

I don't think there are easy answers to keeping everything balanced and progress that the world shares together. Maybe progress shouldn't mean more consumption, but then how can an economy work?
Thanks from Clara007
