The OP:

He promises to demand respect from Trump. His party is four years old, and he founded it.

This election outcome helps to fathom the dislike Trump has engendered worldwide.

Mexican populist López Obrador triumphs in presidential race

MEXICO CITY — Andrés Manuel López Obrador — a populist representing a left-wing political party that he founded four years ago — will be the next leader of Mexico, marking a major change for a country that has been led by the same two political parties for almost 90 years.

Mexicans on Sunday headed to the polls in the country’s largest-ever election with almost 90 million eligible voters and 18,000 open government positions. In the presidential race at the top of the ticket, López Obrador won with a message that he’d end violence, corruption and inequality.

López Obrador also gained support with a pledge he’d demand respect from President Donald Trump, potentially further straining U.S.-Mexico relations on everything from immigration policy to trade.

I expect the new President will be a thorn in Trump’s side, and hopefully his rise will trigger more of the same in Central and South America.

I'd be surprised if KOS really thinks that. After all he was chased out of El Salvador during the Commie revolution. If anyone would, in his heart of hearts, want to keep the rabble created by politics in Mexico and points south off his lawn it would be him.
