Just the opposite. A President should nominate a Justice whenever there is a vacancy and the Senate should hold hearings to confirm that nominee.

It’s the Republicans who broke with that when Scalia died. Obama did his part by making a nomination but the GOP controlled Senate turned it into a partisan pissing match by refusing to even hold hearings because they “wanted the people to have a say”

And now their hypocrisy is laid bare. We have an election coming up that could, quite probably, change which party controls the Senate. But NOW the Republican leadership in the Senate doesn’t think the people should get a say in the process and want the confirmation to take place as soon as possible.
