There is an option. Very high priced LNG from the US of course. That's probably another reason Dot Don scuppered the Iran agreement. They were going to build an LNG plant and being that much closer to Germany it might have been economical to ship LNG between them.

But even then, overall, pipelines are way cheaper and way safer.

Are they cheaper when you factor in who is profiting (Russia)?
