I guess it is possible that some garage based illicit processor might get a source of cheap, contaminated butane. But in a state where it is legal, hopefully that would be minimal.

What is the process to make hash oil or whatever it is one feeds vap machines with?
The Buzzfeed article noted:

In addition, all BHO contains concentrated versions of the lubricating chemicals added to lighter fluid to make sure the butane flows well through pumps. As several chemists repeated to BuzzFeed News, there is no such thing as food- or medical-grade butane. Even companies in Colorado and Washington use lighter fluid. While butane itself has a low boiling point and is not difficult to remove using a vacuum oven, these heavier, harmful compounds including benzene, methylbutane, neopentane, and hexane remain.
Perhaps that's wrong. BF also said cannabis sells for $15-25/gram. That is wrong.

This one might interest you. The question is if 12 ppm is an issue and is that representative of what you get throughout the flow from the cylinder.

When using a gas from a pressurized container, the heavy ends are concentrated in the last bit coming out as they are less volatile at higher pressures.

I barely "smoke" cannabis anymore. I get the flame near, and sorta "vaporize" it that way, and throw out what's left in the bowl before the bud burns and smokes.

The tiny residues of butane contaminants are inhaled. That's worrisome. But like all things related to drugs, education not criminalization is the answer. Despite education, people will choose to abuse BHO, like people abuse sex, food, money, power, etc.
Thanks from Castle Doctrine
