I wouldn't say I've mellowed out but I've lost motivation to really get as angry as I did about stuff like politics and such. Seems all rather futile.

I can't believe you're deluded enough to call me condemning people for toxicating the air others have to breathe a "mental emotional poisoning" in some sort of superiority complex. I'm sorry, is hurting the people around you for a benefit-less addiction not inferiority?

Every day I go to work I pass by a sign on the front of the store that reminds people it's illegal to smoke on the establishments property, and every day I go to work I see dozens, even hundreds on a particularly busy and long day, walking around with damn cigarettes in their mouths. The customers do it, the staff do it on their breaks, and nobody gives a shit. I watch parents carry their children on their hips with a lit cigarette in their mouth and it pisses me off to no end. The level of conceit necessary to toxicate your own child's developing lungs is revolting; so you'll have to forgive me if I sound like I'm morally superior to people who willingly contribute to the premature death of their friends, family, children and complete strangers to boot.
OK, when you put it like that, I'll forgive you.

I'm not defending any one of the scenarios you outlined. Moms smoking with a child on their hips is beyond the pale for me, too.

But here's the deal. All the tobacco addicts you see are far beyond your control. They piss you off, big time. Understood. Being pissed off, or not, is within your control. You've chosen to be pissed off, "for good reasons."

How does your pent-up anger benefit you? Or the tobacco addicts?

It enhances the already amazing experience, it's all good.
What I don't do now, is all the stupid stuff I used to do when I got high when I was 20.
Gee, thanks for ruining my lunch.

Since it appears to disturb Lib...let's have an in-depth discussion of the topic. I am constantly amazed that I still find women so appealing. I thought this would abate with time. However, my son constantly chides me for sight-seeing and window shopping. I tell him I am OLD not DEAD and definitely not BLIND.

Interestingly, my taste in women has kept up with my age...I can see beauty (and sex appeal) in older women where once I didn't. I think age has enhanced my appreciation of female beauty. It certainly hasn't effected my appreciation of sex though.
Thanks from RNG and Camelot

Then again, you're not sexually repressed.

Pretty much the same here, and I turn 66 next month. Although usually I get involved with women 10 to 20 years younger than myself.

Is it better to die young, or to live long enough to see oneself deteriorate?

Define "young". Seriously, please clarify your question.

That is a question each of us have to answer for ourselves. I'm the oldest here of those who have shared their age, I just turned 69. And I can't run anymore. I can't lift heavy objects so in some ways perhaps from your definition I am watching myself deteriorate. And this getting up in the middle of the night to pee thing is a pain.

But I am loving life. I've had a great time. My work was rewarding and since retirement my "hobbies" are if not rewarding in the same way very enjoyable.

Could I see myself getting to the point I'd want to off myself, I don't know. But I do know that I am currently having a ball.
