Everything You Think You Know About Addiction Is Wrong

Here is an interesting TED talk about addiction. It's 15 minutes but is IMO very interesting.

Thanks from coke

Sounds interesting, I'll watch it later and perhaps comment.
As I recovering alcoholic/addict I have some small insights on the matter.

The opposite of addiction is connection. Exactly. And interesting, the dethroning of animals will choose drugs over life. Hell yeah, if they are kept in a cage with no stimulation or contact.

Thanks for the link.

Sort of disappointed at what the guy said. A lot of people who are alcoholics and addicts are very connected, most of them already have a family, friends, a job, and usually a spouse or a lover.

Most addictions is a covering up of emotions, usually of trauma in earlier life, depression, a mental condition like bi-polar and others, or other mental defects. Some people are just sociopaths who use people to use and feel good. I will say the vast majority of abusers are people who have problems with everyday living.

Some people do not want to socialize. I think socialization is overrated. A lot of my drinking and dope usage was in the company of other people, usually at festive occasions. Now "newly sober" people need to be around others again? Yes, I have drank alone to excess. Not really alone, but with my computer, and I have thrown great one man parties before. It sounds pathetic, but it isn't. I get to choose the entertainment, the music, the food, the TV Volume and what to watch on TV.

Very good talk, made a lot of sense in most areas. Especially how most western nations treat addicts. I think Portugal is having very good success with their method.

75% of the prison population in AUS is because of drug related crime.I think the ratio might be the same in USA.The government pays billions a year to lock up addicts. But guess what ???.Just give them what they want and there will be no crime.

The government should sell what the addict wants. There is nothing wrong with drug taking.
