Why Does Marijuana Make You Paranoid?

Quote:

Thoughts like these can easily pop up when we’re stoned in an uncomfortable situation.

Paranoid thinking is related to fear and anxiety. Studies have shown that strong doses of THC can significantly increase paranoid thinking.

Marijuana can also increase negative feelings and unusual sensory experiences. People may interpret the sensations of being high as threatening or dangerous, leading to paranoid thoughts.

Ultimately, many factors influence whether someone gets paranoid from smoking weed. These include dosage, strain content, mindset, environment and personal disposition.

What is Paranoid Thinking?

Quote:

Paranoid thinking is when someone thinks they are being threatened, targeted, or harmed without any real evidence. Because there is no real threat, paranoia is considered a kind of delusion.

Paranoid people assume others’ motives are suspicious, while others would not. Others see the behavior as normal or coincidental.

Paranoia is not the same thing as psychosis. Psychosis is a loss of touch with reality associated with mental conditions like schizophrenia. However, paranoia is often seen in those with psychosis.

No one "gets" paranoid from using cannabis.

Paranoid people who usually keep their paranoia under wraps, hiding it from others and themselves, are far less able to hide it when high.

And then, in many states using cannabis is, after all, against the law. That'll make ya paranoid when yer high and holding.
Thanks from Hollywood

Yeah I'm sure. I had a couple of friends back then who got paranoid when high, and they were paranoid when not high, just not as much as when high.

I saw the same thing happen with LSD.

Never got anxiety with earlier weaker strains of herb. I don’t smoke regularly at all now but today’s stronger herb causes anxiety. A younger friend that wasn’t around during the 80’s calls it “fighting the beast”. I told him that I want a Neil Young high and have no interest in fighting the beast. That is the very antithesis of what I liked about getting high back in the day.

Marijuana is used for the psychoactive THC. THC drugs the mind and body. It might dull emotions, but it doesn't change your feelings, or relieves worries or anxieties. Actually if I have a lot of worry or anxiety I don't like using marijuana because it will make me more stressed out and causes me more worry because my mind is focused on my concerns. It doesn't always make one giggly and serene like in stoner films either. A stoned asshole is still an asshole, a stoned angry person is still and angry person and a depressed person or feeling.

Since marijuana is still illegal in most states, there is a fear of getting caught although we risk it because we enjoy the substance. Probably the most flouted law there is, a law that does have consequences. In Arizona without a medical marijuana card, any amount of marijuana is a felony, even a joint. When I lived in Nevada (where it is legal now incredibly) it was the same thing, even small amounts of marijuana was a FELONY.

Even in my home state of Tennessee, under an ounce is a gross misdeamnor with fines up to $2000 and up to 11 months 29 days in jail. Growing any amount is a felony. People can be deported. People can lose their jobs or licensing, or never be able to work again because of background checks (which helps revolves the cycle of returning to crime and jail out of necessity). I personally have had a few close calls with cops and weed.

Cocaine and meth are two drugs that make me paranoid. I keep thinking the police are right outside the door, looking through the peepholes, or under the doors or out the windows and I pray no one calls me or knocks on my door......I don't like those drugs at all. I don't really get doing drugs that abnormally gives people rushes of energy where they cannot sleep for days. Heroin I have fortunately never done (and won't) but I get heroin, lay back, nod off, everything is wonderful, but until the buzz wears off and the person has to get more, draining their bank account, dealing with scary people, committing crimes. I have never done the drug, but to me it cannot be that much different than a good marijuana high, and even on illegality, most people including low wage people can afford pot, and almost no one has ever had to sell themselves for marijuana. Almost no one, but I am sure it has happened.

I've had a constant headache for as long as I can remember and herb makes it go away when aspirin has no effect. I mainly use pot for medicinal purposes. Medical pot is legal in Ohio but get a prescription and you won't pass the FBI background check to buy a gun so I buy my weed from an old friend who will never snitch me down and I will never snitch him down.

edit: Aspirin was used by Native Americans and made from the inner bark of the Black Willow tree which is a small tree that snakes live in along creeks and rivers in Ohio. There is also an Indian Medicine Plant in Ohio which has fuzzy leaves and lives close to the ground. Never kill a Medicine Plant.

I do, that's why i don't.
However there are strains now that relieve pain and do less in the line of making one high. Those work nicely for, say, a sore back or arthritis.
Thanks from Twisted Sister
