Exactly.
This whole "not a benign substance" is essentially a strawman argument.
The vast majority of people who support legalization of marijuana support imposing age restrictions and similar requirements. I don't know of anybody who says it's "benign".

Maybe you should talk to the people who claim it's benign? Whoever they are?

And regarding the people actually on this board, if you want to talk to them instead maybe you can answer some questions on your overall position on the subject and your justification for those positions.

Regarding the article, focusing on a 17-year old kid whose marijuana use would be illegal under legalization is begging the question of legal marijuana.
Also, it's relevant to note that legalizing marijuana has been observed to LOWER teen marijuana use.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/...?noredirect=on
Following legalization, the rate of adolescent marijuana use in Colorado has fallen to its lowest level in nearly a decade, according to new federal survey data.

State-level numbers from the National Survey on Drug Use and Health show that a little more than 9 percent of Colorado teens age 12 to 17 used marijuana monthly in 2015 and 2016, a statistically significant drop from the prior period. That's the lowest rate of monthly marijuana use in the state since 2007 and 2008.

If we could just get the gun people and the drug people to understand that they are making the same argument we would have a much better place to live.

I believe that is a reformulated penn quote though i couldn't find it.

You are right they are, that is why they are controlled.

Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) is used to control them

Pot kills more people that assault rifles, by over 10 fold. (That is just auto accidents) that does not include workplace and Home accidents or accidents during recreation.

You'll literally believe anything, won't you? (except the truth).

No wonder you are Republican...

Well, I've been around people who smoked pot all my life - and I've never met one addict. And I've smoked my own fair share of weed in my time.

However, being old and around the block a few times - and known addicts of just about every shape, sort and size - I'd take a pot addict over an alcoholic or a junkie ANYDAY.

If somebody is going to be addicted to something - marijuana is a pretty good substance to abuse.

Water overdose: Confusion, nausea, and vomiting are symptoms. Severe cases can cause seizures, coma, and death.

Aspirin overdose: The earliest symptoms of acute aspirin poisoning may include ringing in the ears (tinnitus) and impaired hearing. More clinically significant signs and symptoms may include rapid breathing (hyperventilation), vomiting, dehydration, fever, double vision, and feeling faint

Marijuana? Confused scientists recommend consuming pounds of it in a single sitting. Can anyone say "media lies"?

I heard a medical expert say that in order to die from a THC "overdose" that a person would have to smoke a joint the size of a telephone pole. Considering that the person would likely pass out well before smoking the entire "pole"....it seems unlikely that even then that THC would kill him.
