I could start with the Prison Industrial Complex..as the thousands of US convicts forced to work for $1.00 per hour in new prison-based sweatshops should be considered a form of slavery back on US soil again. Not to mention that it sets a very ugly set of motivations in a ruthless, capitalist society by making incarceration profitable! Court, policing and incarceration systems should be a net cost to any capitalist society, cause otherwise the incentives are not to improve living conditions for the poor and reform antiquated laws/ but to stock private for-profit prisons with more and more inmates.

I'll get into that maybe some other time, cause I really want to point out this story, that..like every bad story about major corporations..barely appeared in the news cycle: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/artic...r-child-slaves I wouldn't have been aware of any of it..from the time six former child slaves from the West African republic of Mali launched a class action suit against ADM, Nestle and Cargill (the biggest corporations in factory farming today) way back in 2005. That law suit lingered on in the backlog of the courts..was dismissed the first time, and re-submitted by lawyers for the defendents, a year ago, until here last week, we have the celebratory byline on Bloomberg News.

Did anyone else hear of this over the past 10 years or so? I follow international news and these kinds of stories pretty closely and it was the first time I came across it! Anyway, the gist of the story is that for a 2nd time a US judge has ruled that the three megacorp defendents had no prior knowledge that their West African supplier company was using slave labour. Perhaps they don't want to celebrate too loudly because they can't deny not knowing about rampant child labour used in cocoa production!

The suit was re-launched because of Nestle and Cargill's PR OP: setting up some kind of bullshit "oversight" group that was supposed to monitor and deal with human rights abuses on their African plantations....let's cut the bullshit! These companies...just like the Walmart and others operating sweatshops in Bangladesh have a tight reign on their suppliers, that are only created to provide the mother corporation an excuse for ignorance of all abuses!

So, the brief Bloomberg piece reports that "U.S. Supreme Court set high bar for overseas wrongdoing cases" No fucking kidding! That high bar essentially says you can do whatever the hell you want over there in some impoverished third world dictatorship where all you need is to throw a few dollars at the presiding dictator and his regime to carry out any abuses you want in the name of profits! And, these gathering stories of slavery abuses, both foreign and within the United States, should give you a warning that capitalism will lead right back to slavery and fascism as it becomes too difficult to earn high profits from a more civil democratic society!
All of the examples you site make my point. Crony capitalists go to government to get sanction to enslave and exploit. Which is socialism.
Thanks from Sabcat

What, about $4,755/yr. doesn't sound good to you? And, for some weird reason you would have a problem breathing this "capitalist" air?

Real capitalism means monopolies, corporatocracy and bought politicians.

Anyone who thinks capitalism is in any way related to free enterprise in fact doesn't think.

You really are stretching !!!! In a capitalist society WHO DO YOU THINK CONTROLS THE GOVERNMENT ??? THE CAPITALISTS !!! At least the rich ones.

Who do you think has more say in our current government ??

You ?? Or the guy that can cough up $200,000 to join Trump's Mar A Lago ??

You ?? Or the corporation that funded half a dozen congressional campaigns ??

You ?? Or the Koche brothers or George Soros ??

It's called the golden rule, them has the gold makes the rules. And THAT sir is unfettered capitalism. No one is saying capitalism, especially western capitalism, hasn't been instrumental in raising the standard of living for billions of people. What we are saying is unfettered capitalism is as bad for the common man as any other society. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.
Thanks from imaginethat, RNG, Hollywood and 1 others
