But the government follows none of Marx's ideas. So how can they be called "Marxist"?

And according to Marx, the economy is the foundation of any country, from which all else springs in service to the economic base. So if China is transitioning to capitalism, it MUST have a capitalist government bringing it about, and a capitalist culture of consumerism supporting it.

"Marxism is the precursor to communism"?? That doesn't make any sense.

Capitalism is the precursor to socialism. Socialism is the precursor to communism.

Xi went full autocrat...

amp.cnn.com/cnn/2018/02/26/opinions/president-xi-term-limits-opinion-intl/index.html

What is China? China is many things but, i believe it isn't what we hope for and desire. Their ancient past offers no comfort for the future we're dreaming of?

And we've learn absolutely nothing with all the literal knowledge at our fingertips! Whatever....

China has just become a dictatorship again.

So Russia was doing great as a free market was developing. Then Putin made himself dictator and it went to shit again.

Are we about to see a similar thing in China?

Nice opinion piece but has Xi behaved like Putin?

Xi is much smarter, strategic and dangerous than Putin.

That's my opinion, you have your own?

I live in China. China is not doing that well and a lot of it is an illusion.

The country is still very overpopulated. Not only that, China has too many men and not enough women, something along the lines of 110 men for every 100 women.

Much of China is still poor and very Third World. Millions of people work and live on a dollar a day in substandard housing, with many people working slave jobs working every single day in dirty factories in unsafe conditions. There is no OSHA in China. If a worker dies, hey, there are plenty of workers.

The Chinese are entering another long term dictator in Xi Jinping. So much for hoping that China would somehow walk out of the shadows of dictatorship into something better than different. Chinese needs bosses and people to tell them what to do and where to go. This is all they know.

The pollution is horrendous. Yes, the government is trying to clean up a bit but it's like feeding a 1000 pound man one less hamburger from the twenty he eats a day, or taking out one bag of trash from a Mt. Everest sized garbage dump.

Pretty easy to make a profit when you pay most workers nearly nothing, work them seven days a week to the point of exhaustion (and suicide which is common) and then have positive trade deals and sell your crap to multinational corporations Worldwide.

I love China. I live here and my wife is Chinese. But China is fucked in the head. China won't rule the World, Chinese couldn't run a three car funeral. All they can do is copy, adapt and force their people to do their bidding.
Thanks from Hollywood

who says that they are? YOU?

their per capita average income is 3k per year, USA. In the US, it's more like 40k per year per person. China will collapse LONG before they can close that gap. The entire world needs to skip an entire generation, sterilizing all women of child bearing age, for 20 years. Then allow, by lottery, 10% of women to have ONE child before being sterilized. in 60 years, the population will be reduced to where everyone has a CHANCE of having a decent life. 1/4 of the world tries to live on 1K US per year, half of the world on 2k per year, 3/4 on 4k per year and 90% on 10k US per year, or less. YOU are in the top 5%, world wide, no matter how poor you are in the US. If you're making 50k a year, you're in the top 2%, world wide.

the poorest bum in the US can have AC or heat, all day, sometimes all night, too, just by entering Wally's, libraries, etc. Free Wifi, free food, free ER care, get a car to live in for $400, you and your stuff secured and out of the weather. it only has to be able to move half a mile a day, 2 times per day, to never be noticed, if you're not stupid about what you do, and how and when you do it.

if you want to sit in the sun, go to the park on your bicycle, not put out a chair by your van in Wally's parking lot, dummy. Dont have curtains, or a cargo van. they attract attention. Instead, apply your own privacy tint to a mini-van and blend in. Keep your trash in garbage bins, not just dumping it out of the window! You can always use laundromats to wash clothes, and take sponge baths. There's no reason at all that you can't maintain a proper appearance. so that you can get a JOB! You can have a PO box addy, nobody will care. You can sell your plasma, $60 a week. You can have a Reagan phone (obama had nothing to do with that program). you can get 12k per year loans from the jr college, usable on whatever you want. The Pell grant will cover your tuition and fees. You can join the National guard, it' pays $800 a month. That's a niice sideline, for 1 weekend per month and 2 weeks of summer camp! and be guaranteed to stay in your local area while you complete college, if you move to where there's a fort and you declare whatever MOS is taught there. the guard will pay for your tuition and fees, so you can cash out your 6k of Pell grant per year, for 4 years. The NG will also give you a $20,000 signup bonus. 10k up front, 5k after 3 years, 5k more at the end of your 6 year enlistment.

In the Army NG or the Army reserves you only get paid when you are on active duty. So, you get paid for your ONE weekend per month and while your on your two weeks active duty. Whether or not that adds up to $9,600.00 per year ($800.00/mo,) depends on your rank, TIG, and length of service.
