However, if you take your full monthly pay monthly, you do NOT get paid for the summer months when school is not in session.

Does that explain it to you?

Why do you think so many teachers work at second jobs in the summer? - because if anybody could use a break from stress and overwork, believe me, it's teachers.

they still earn say $50k/yr though, right?

it is not like those three months are subtracted because they are not working for those days are they?

people take summer jobs because they have free time and want to earn money or take the perks from the summer jobs. i have a few associates who work at golf courses for the summer for the golf memberships.

are you trying to say that the humans who are trusted w/ teaching the future generations are unable to budget? that probably goes back to the socialist/big government philosophy.

then they are idiots.

you understand that opting out would be not paying in, right?

not taking what you have already paid for is just stupid.

i want to start taking SS as soon as i can, i recommend everyone does.

I'm going to add this as well. In most cases when conservatives/republicans start talking about the education system, it is almost always about ways to save money, reduce the bloat, trim the fat, etc etc etc whatever euphemism you care to use, it comes down to cutting budgets. If they aren't talking about cutting budgets, they're talking about school vouchers. Sadly in either case it's usually the teachers themselves that take the hit. Administrators rarely reduce their head count. Hell even the janitors have better job security than many teachers.

Either way the schools systems lose money. They say people vote with their wallets. Why would anyone in the public school systems ever vote for someone that's going to eliminate their job ??
Thanks from Clara007

B.S. socialism. This was a capitalist-inspired betrayal of public trust by Congress. Let them receive worthless IOUs each month!

Oh. So I would have to lie or accept a religion. Yeah that is hardly a free uninhibited free choice.

At least, that's the way it is in PA, NY and CT. I believe most states are the same way as the states with which I'm familiar - maybe a few are different.

Those that can't Teach..

Those that can't support Socialism because they get their hands on earnings of those that do.

My family also stressed tolerance, fairness, equality, strength, and Christian values....all of which are necessary to be an outstanding teacher. Now you can call that socialism if you want to, but that's what teachers do. We teach children the three "R"s, but we also teach social skills, respect, manners, choices, sharing, assisting, supporting, punctuality, following instructions, finishing a task, forgiveness, good sportsmanship, preparedness, self-regulation and problem solving......and the list goes on. We teach academics AND socialization because thats what it takes to succeed in the global community. Our children cannot compete in a global economy if they are small-minded, intolerant, hateful and socially inept.
If conservatives and capitalists want something different for our children then why don't MORE CONSERVATIVES choose academia??
Snap, except that only one of my grandparents had a degree - of sorts! But the teaching goes back at least a generation before them.

Now tell me this. How much would you pay someone who has every weekend, holiday off? Throw in a fall break, a spring break, Christmas break and about 2.5 months off in the summer. Yeah the poor underpaid school teacher indeed.
Like so many mugs, you suppose you just go in and teach, without any preparation, and don't mark. If you really believe that drivel, grow up.
