Everyone in this country does not have to ascribe to your beliefs. Policing free speech on college campuses is the stuff of the Stasi and the Gestapo. You might not agree with their opinions but they are free to express them.

I don't care what was said then. I care about what is allowed to be said now.

WOW, you sound like a danger to the future of freedom of the press, freedom of speech and freedom to assemble.

Whatever. Waste of time.
This thought is part of the problem. An uncomfortable talk is being shut down by you because it challenges your already existing beliefs.

There was no sacrificing of knowledge. If anything, bigots can learn a helluva lot by going to school and being exposed to education and other groups of people.

i have teenage kids and this same crazy shit goes on at their school. I'm afforded the luxury of entertaining teachers from 6th grade all the way thru college. i also live in the liberal mecca of the midwest. my hand may be a bit more on the pulse then you realize. if we continue to allow language to be seen as a hurtful thing when it comes to higher education and feel the need to wrap the students up in bubble wrap every morning don't expect their education to be worth anything.

I agree with you, so what is the problem?

Again. I am not concerned about their expressing their opinions. What i am concerned about is their not allowing an equal representation of contrary uncomfortable opinions that challenges theirs.

You are entitled to your opinion and so am I. This relatively new term "political correctness" is merely an effort of the Right to repackage and justify ther past discriminatory behavior in a 21st century context IMO.

Shut down? What are you talking about. I simply said, while operating under the impression that I can still hold and voice my own opinion..., that I wasn't going to waste my time listening to some guy whine about what he thinks is happening. I have a totally different take on it, because I don't see the things that are being cried about here.

Funny that you refuse to believe my side of the story. You are trying to shut my viewpoint down, and trying to push some other guy's agenda.

Hmmm.

Strangle opposing views much?

Whatever.

yup, completely a new idea. never before in the history of civilization has the idea of controlling language ever crossed the minds of the ruling class...

“Don't you see that the whole aim of Newspeak is to narrow the range of thought? In the end we shall make thought-crime literally impossible, because there will be no words in which to express it. Every concept that can ever be needed will be expressed by eactly one word, with its meaning rigidly defined and all its subsidiary meanings rubbed out and forgotten. . . . The process will still be continuing long after you and I are dead. Every year fewer and fewer words, and the range of consciousness always a little smaller. Even now, of course, there's no reason or excuse for commiting thought-crime. It's merely a question of self-discipline, reality-control. But in the end there won't be any need even for that. . . . Has it ever occcured to you, Winston, that by the year 2050, at the very latest, not a single human being will be alive who could understand such a conversation as we are having now?”
