The Untold Story Of Memorial Day:Former Slaves Honoring And Mourning The Dead

Today, cities across the North and South claim credit for establishing the first Decoration Day—from Macon, Georgia to Richmond, Virginia to Carbondale, Illinois. Yet, a key story of the holiday has been nearly erased from public memory and most official accounts, including that offered by the the Department of Veterans Affairs.

I agree. The Democrat slave holding mentality never died. Today they call it Socialism and they just want to enslave people according to their wealth. The wealthy get to play in capitalism. The working folk have to get mired in Socialism. That is their dream. Normal people know it to be a nightmare. Keep reminding the nation that Democrats were the slave holders. Every day let them never forget who it was

Don't recall that movie. What was it's name, when was it released?

Here pops up the slavery question again. All races have been slaves in the past that blacks don't hold a monopoly on.

Certainly not you but some blacks feel entitled due to long ago slavery and later Jim Crow Laws.

We have the right to feel entitled. Entitled to respect, equality and humanity. We don't need anything else. My great-great grandparents were enslaved. It is not as long ago as you like to think.

I am just starting to trace my ancestry, as the subject is often too painful for most black people, including myself, but I do owe it to them to learn about them & keep everything about them alive. They've earned it. I finally know their names & birth dates, I'm back to the late 1800's, and I will be researching further to find what plantations they were on & maybe even, what slave ships may have had some of my ancestors.
