This is the sort of thing that keeps me leaning to the right

Because they're a good group of diverse people on the right who are not what they are portrayed to be. Plus i beleieve in many a things that they stand for. Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness is good for everyone and not the few. IMHO.

I just wish people who aren’t leftist would be allowed to fairly explain themselves without the hate, stigma, and personal attacks,” libertarian student Winston Anderson told Campus Reform, remarking that St. Olaf’s has “a tense political climate.”

“It is unfortunate that another group has chosen to attack us personally,” concurred TPUSA officer Nicklaus Johnson, while conservative student Ariel Byerly stated that she wishes “there wasn’t so much hate for conservatives on this campus…everybody else gets to put up their displays in peace, even the controversial ones.”

I had always leaned right in terms of lesser government and fiscal responsibility. That's responsibility, ie tax cuts mean spending cuts.

But somewhere within the past 15 years, the "right" in Canada and to a larger extent in the US has become taken over by the fundie menace and become a corporatocracy.

I thought Bush the elder was a great president. Then Jr came along to really hurt the brand and the current Republican President is killing it if not having achieved that already.

And yes, I have become very outspoken about it in response to all the totally mindless acceptance of a president that is a liar and con man by too many of his supporters.

But with all that said, I am totally against demonstrations that are or are on the verge of becoming violent that have shut down attempts by persons of whatever ideological position and thus universities, for example have cancelled or banned them. They have the same right to express themselves as the people I agree with and should be allowed to do so.

You say you lean right on fiscal responsibility but you Praise US Democrats?

you do know that of our 20,000,000 dollar national debt 14.2 trillion over 2/3 of that debt was CREATED when Democrat controlled the borrowing.

1/6 has been borrowed when Republicans controlled the borrowing

1/6th was borrowed when the Control was divided.

So you support those that have been least fiscally responsible.

in other words your actions do not mirror your words.

Are you thinking of the evangelists? Politics and religion have never ever mixed well in human history of governance.

I don't mean to be disrespectful, Panther, BUT what do you know about St. Olaf College? I assume Sabcat is acquainted with St. Olaf but would be truly surprised if any other posters KNOW much about St. Olaf.

St. Olaf College is located in Northfield, MN. It was founded to foster education for Norwegian immigrant students. It is a private, Lutheran, liberal arts college. Population: 3000+ According to their website they have 1 Native American student, 213 Asians, 77 Blacks, 2 Native Hawaiians, and 180 Hispanics.
The tuition is over $54,000/yr. Students call themselves "Oles". It is a beautiful campus...very prestigious.

Do you see where I'm going with this?? St. Olaf has some pretty upper-crust kids and usually that means liberal bias.
Add to all the above, what I like to call, The Young and the Restless--the high ideals and spunk that comes with college students.

Like it or not, it's the way our small private colleges tick these days.
Thanks from tristanrobin, RNG and Lyzza

Yeah, and go to a big school where students raise awareness for rape, clean water, war refugees, whatever, and we are constantly verbally or sometimes (for boys i know) physically accosted for our activism. Yeah, real tolerant right wingers there on campus loooooooool

Sorry, I meant to get back to you on this earlier but I was suffering some more new computer blues.

I no longer use the term right wing evangelicals because I, through my family's church now know lots of good christians. And many of them tend to be right leaning. And they describe themselves as belonging to an evangelical church. But that they mean it is part of their duty to try and spread the word.

But these folks do it through kindness and setting a good example and helping in the community in many volunteer efforts. Not via the legislature and not forcing it down anyone's throat or demanding that others see everything their way.

It takes the fundie menace to do that.
Thanks from Lyzza

But when the Alt-right marches in Charlottesville giving the Nazi salute and chanting “Jews will not replace us”, that is just good ole boys exercising their right to free speech, right ?

Ok, i guess i dont get this whole meme about college campuses being anti-right or what-the-fuck-ever they are crying about. Have any of these people actually been in our classrooms and heard the discussions, difference in opinions, and debates? somehow i seriously doubt it........
Thanks from Clara007
