I don't think it will be challenging. Let's see who has something to say. I'm glad to take the hits. In this particular case, I hope I'm wrong, but considering the remarks SO FAR.....I doubt it.
@Clara

?

Prove what? What are not understanding?

I am currently a Senior College student, not all that removed from HS. I worked as a Security Guard for years past High School in Middle School & High School environments regularly, while attending the first part of College. I have friends years younger than me. Additionally, I am an online Tutor for two distinct popular sites, that works with HS, MS, and College kids. Also, my mother is a public school teacher.

I know exactly what happens in the school system; i.e. the environment, curriculum, emphasis, authority structure, etc. etc.

Why do you have such a poor habit of throwing out wild, unfounded accusations?

I spend a fair amount of time involved w/ the schools. I was going to join the pta but my wife wanted me to use an alias. Though i think she has changed her mind on that so maybe next year 😂

Sabcat,

My sympathies go out to the position you are forced in by the system--very difficult spot to be in. I know, I have a good friend from growing up who's father actually had a decent head on his shoulders. My buddy told me, his father showed up to one of the school board meetings and was appalled/mind-boggled by the priorities and mind-space of the other parents. Their main concern consisted of sports funding, wanting to build new stadium, new jerseys, equipment, etc. etc.--rather than school supplies and such. As for curriculum, they were under the impression things were more or less running smoothly, but just wanted to complain a bit about trivial matters. Apparently, he got worked up 3/4s of the way into the meeting, more or less told them they had their heads shoved up their a**es, priorities all backward, etc. After that meeting, he realized it was pretty hopeless attempting to go on a one-man crusade. The system is set up so that you either 'fall in line' or get removed & replaced. Now, if one were able to find some significant number of parents more or less on the same page, that can make some difference. Though, the odds are very much stacked against them. Of course, this can potentially strongly 'blowback' on the people who are attempting to do the right thing, as the community is not going to like it one bit.

I will say, I enjoy the movie "Coach Carter" greatly for his individual efforts in this regard.

Well here i am sure they will all be worried about social justice in some way or another. Im just going to record it and post it someplace for all of the parents in the district to see before i most likely freak out and tell everyone to fuck off.
Thanks from xMathFanx

@Sabcat

LMAO Would you be concerned about potential repercussions? I know that these things are sometimes recorded, and in todays environment, everything conceivably 'out of line' not only can, but almost definitely will be dug up by someone as a means to discredit, through slander, their target(s). Note, it does not actually have to be 'out of line', as long as the majority perceive it that way--could prove problematic.

If you are familiar with "Coach Carter" movie, that is exactly how it is--if a person actually tries to help the kids, they all go ballistic.

Your description of your day was pre internet. Many of that stuff can be done in a few minutes that back then took hours and from the comfort of your house as you watch american idol.

Pre Internet?? HUH?? AND what stuff can be done in a few minutes?

AND why do you have such a poor habit of being so self-involved? You are NOT a teacher. You are a student....and I did acknowledge there are SOME posters who have probably been involved in their district schools.

Not everything is about YOU.
Thanks from RNG

@Clara

In case it has escaped your notice--this is a Discussion Board.

Also, students, quite obviously, are able to make value judgements on curriculum, teaching, environment, structuring, etc. Further, I just told you I am employed as a Tutor.

Stopped at the mailboxes, put my sack lunch in the frig and unlocked my classroom door at about 7 am. At that point, I got everything up and running, made copies of worksheets/tests and lesson plans--which had to be delivered to the principal
