Gary, on this, I think you are on your own. Of all the folks on this board, Ontheleft,is one of the kindest and most open to the ideas of others I have read.

I wish I could agree Bonnie.

You may have missed some of her more hateful, closed-minded, discriminatory posts.

And as you know, nobody is more fair-minded than I am.

I would not want this thread to get derailed by your citing old posts from another thread, so let's just leave it then,I have not seen 'em. And OTL has always given me the benefit of trying to articulate the strange tension between my heart for all people and my adherence to a fundamental faith. And she has personally shown me the kindness I needed to be shown.

So gary, you find it acceptable for a community to discriminate against individuals, unless they are discriminating against what you do or believe in? That would be the height of hypocrisy on your part. And I haven't seen any schools or towns in this country that stop people from wearing crosses or attending church, or that have banned traditional marriage, have you?

Thank you for the kind words, OhDear. You're the kind of person I enjoy debating these issues with. You worded it well - you want to adhere to your faith and you retain certain beliefs, but kindness and understanding for all are important to you, too. I don't agree with you regarding gay rights, but I do understand your stance and will not belittle your for it.

That is so different from two or three others here who have totally dismissed my life and beliefs....as well as called me "sick," "deviant" and compared my 22-year relationship to buggering farm animals or corpses.

It's all about respect with me. If someone, like OhDear, shows me respect and a willingness to listen to my side of an argument, I will reciprocate. I don't have to agree with her to enjoy the exchange of ideas and opinions.

Hey! There's still some towns in America that don't cotton to those liberal minded folks - especially gays! Yeah, they're just a bunch of god ole' bigots. Guess what? Just don't live there. duhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

I dn't know of anybody who has said they hated Christians - nor anybody who is against people having a "traditional marriage," if that is what they choose for themselves.

Attending church would be an out-of-school activity so its not a good comparison.

This entire issue is why so many parents send their kids to private schools where they learn English, math, history, etc. When did the public schools become political forums of any kind?
