Is The Tide Turning?

Perhaps the number of subjects for agnotology is decreasing.

What began as a subtle shift away from the claim that man-made global warming is not a threat to the planet has lately turned into a stampede. The latest attempt to deny denial comes from the conservative American Legislative Exchange Council, a powerful group that pushes for states to pass laws that are often drafted by industry. As my Post colleagues Tom Hamburger, Joby Warrick and Chris Mooney report, ALEC is not only insisting that it doesn’t deny climate change — it’s threatening to sue those who suggest otherwise.

The turnabout at ALEC follows an about-face at the Heartland Institute, a libertarian outfit that embraces a description of it as “the world’s most prominent think tank promoting skepticism about man-made climate change.”

But on Christmas Eve, Justin Haskins, a blogger and editor at Heartland, penned an article for the conservative journal Human Events declaring: “The real debate is not whether man is, in some way, contributing to climate change; it’s true that the science is settled on that point in favor of the alarmists.”

Haskins called it “a rather extreme position to say that we ought to allow dangerous pollutants to destroy the only planet we know of that can completely sustain human life,” and he suggested work on “technologies that can reduce CO2 emissions without destroying whole economies.”

But if hell is freezing over, does that mean AGW is no longer a problem?

AGW never was a problem, the warming has been a natural cycle following the Little Ice Age.

It's never been denied it's has happened in the past. What's different about this is the speed and extent of it. It has NEVER gone that quickly nor done that much is such a short time. THAT'S the man made pollution that has destroyed it as this rate.

When even Heartland starts turning against you, where to run?

That's how it always goes RNG. The Right wing puppet masters crank the Wingnuts up on all kinds of issues for political purposes. The Wingnuts fall for it hook, line and sinker. Then when the position becomes politically untenable, their puppet masters change their position and their wingnut followers are left alone holding their little pee wee's.

You might even find a wingnut here and there who thinks invading Iraq was a bad idea....
But it will take a long time for our resident deniers to shift to the rational side, they have so much invested, and data has no effect on their thinking...

RSS / MSU and AMSU Data / Time Series Trend Browser

If we look at the entire history of satellite data c.1979 to 2015 (and the trend of warming has ended for nearly three decades now) what is the entire chart showing?

From a minus ~ 0.2 c.1979 to a plus ~0.25 in 2015. So from c.1979 to 2015, in the 37th year, an increase of plus ~0.45 over those 37 years. But as anyone who can look at the past 26 years, statistically meaningless. That is since c.1988 to 2015, basically a flat line.

Heck, look at c.1981 to 2015, what is that change over 34 years? Looks to be from plus ~0.15 to plus ~0.25, so where is any meaningful warming in those 34 years?

There's your trend.
