Maybe.

Like all climate change deniers, at a certain point in the discussion, when it becomes clear they have no science backing their allegations, they go off-point into Fallacyland.

One of their favorite Fallacyland destinations is: The earth's climate changed in the past without human input, so, it's changing now - as it's always done - without human input. The more "rational" deniers will admit to "a little" input from human activities, but maintain that human input is a minor factor.

Both of these positions must overlook the current situation, that the "natural" factors point to a climate which should be cooling off slightly. Oh no, you'll never hear them acknowledge that....

Another favorite Fallacyland destination: attack the credentials and character of climatologists, or a forum participant. In this case, justoneman acts as though he's nailed you, when he's not provided any personal details regarding his scientific qualifications ... or lack thereof.

I've grown tired of debating them. No matter how many times you take the time to provide the info discrediting their assertions, the next time around they'll use exactly the same argument as though the two of you have never discussed the point. So "debating" them is a waste of one's energy and precious time.

I admire your tenacity, and despite what I just said above I often do engage in these discussions. It's my opinion that we are rapidly approaching a threshold of a runaway methane event that may me unavoidable at this point. We may already be in the initial phase. We'll see.

Here's a little food for thought....

Leaders like Trump are being advised by people who want to use climate change to increase political control over the people. No, not the advisors warning of climate change who are dupes of the Chinese-originating fable of a warming planet driven by rising levels of CO2.

No, this is a different group. They know that rising CO2 is warming up the planet, and that as I've noted the earth may be approaching a climatic threshold event when the release of methane locked into clathrates on the ocean floor and in Arctic permafrost begins a positive feedback cycle producing warming that results in vast amounts of methane being released and sudden and dramatic increases in temperature.

The atmospheric warming then results in a warming ocean that will begin releasing its dissolved CO2. The diminishing sea ice pack will reduce the oceanic albedo and add to the warming.

These "deniers" know all this, and know that we're actually seeing it right now but look forward to using crises caused by climate-driven, large displacements of humans to increase their political power. Someone has to "take care" of the people, right? There's a new conspiracy to sink one's teeth into.

"Here is a little food for thought" and "Let me put it in layman's terms"

Pompous Lefties who think they are learned on a subject because they read some propaganda on the internet, frost my cookies. Well my guy is in office now and he is going to get to the bottom of some of this collusion and lying on the subject. Lots of fudged data has already been exposed to the light of day and I am sure there is a ton more of it yet to be unearthed.

I am not an expert on the subject and neither are you and neither is the other guy full of boloney. I am not trying to imply I have degrees I do not. I have a BFA with a minor in geography.

So then, when exactly will you be debating the topic of the OP of this message thread or climate change, instead of hurling fallacies?

Thanks from imaginethat and Daws77

Hmmm...this is a possible true or even imagined conspiracy I hadn't even thought of.

One thing I think is for sure is the effects from more local climate change has caused crises in the past...and present. But, those effects could be rather marginal when one considers rapid climate change on a global scale. Perhaps its no wonder why the US military is seriously concerned about climate change.
