EPA Drops Request for Methane Information from Oil and Gas Industry

At a minimum, 46 more months of sacrificing all values on the altar of Mammon.
EPA Drops Request for Methane Information from Oil and Gas Industry
Companies are no longer required to provide information about onshore equipment and controls that could reduce emissions of greenhouse gases

U.S. EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt has swiftly complied with a request from GOP leaders in oil-and-gas-producing states to scrap an Obama-era request for industry information about reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

The agency yesterday withdrew a formal survey of oil and gas companies that required them to provide information about onshore equipment and controls that could reduce emissions of greenhouse gases, including methane. Industry and state officials complained that the information collection request (ICR) was time-consuming and expensive.

“By taking this step, EPA is signaling that we take these concerns seriously and are committed to strengthening our partnership with the states,” Pruitt said in a statement. “Today’s action will reduce burdens on businesses while we take a closer look at the need for additional information from this industry.”

...Industry groups were “overjoyed” at the news, calling the ICR an eleventh-hour attempt by the Obama administration to gather excessive data.

“We’re overjoyed,” Western Energy Alliance President Kathleen Sgamma said in an email....

The American Petroleum Institute hopes EPA’s move is part of a one-two punch, with the Senate also considering using the Congressional Review Act to torpedo Bureau of Land Management restrictions on methane emissions for oil and gas development on public and tribal lands.

Environmentalists, meanwhile, are worried that the oil and gas industry has Pruitt’s EPA in its pocket.

“This appalling decision shows how quickly Pruitt is turning the EPA into an oil industry vending machine,” Center for Biological Diversity attorney Vera Pardee said in a statement.

...Mark Brownstein, vice president of climate and energy for the Environmental Defense Fund, said industry’s complaints about the ICR are “ironic,” considering operators’ contention last year that EPA needed more information before it could craft new emissions restrictions.

“The larger point here is that Administrator Pruitt is saying it’s OK for industry to withhold basic information on pollution from oil and gas operations from the American people,” he told E&E News....

And the hits keep coming. This is still in the "could" category but all kinds of media are on it.

White House could slash Great Lakes funding by 97% as part of proposed EPA budget cuts - Chicago Tribune

Why the fuck don't they quit pretending and just shut the whole EPA down?

It works for China.

Yeah, it does. If we just let our water, air, and land go to hell, we could have a 5 percent growth rate too.

Where are you, Trump supporters? Do you know that what stands between our cities looking like Chinese, or Indian, or even European cities is our Environmental Protection Agency?

Decades of diligent work can be undone in a very short period of time.

Never forget that we have a deconstructionist, Bannon, who has the president's ear.

Once more the joke that Trump is a uniter is shown for the lie that it is. Gutting the EPA will increase opposition to the Trump regime. Bannon and his disgusting ilk WANT Americans at each others' throats.

Is this what you want, Trump supporters? I know all the growth rate and making America great again talk has a lot of people really excited. But it appears, like Obamacare, that the devil is in the details. I doubt many would support a "better economy" if it means living like the Chinese, who have no civil rights, have terribly polluted air, water, and ground, have no legal recourse for the effects of pollution, and who have jobs in unsafe working environments.

Is this what you want, Trump supporters? Did you understand that part of Trump's plan for making America great again includes letting polluters police themselves, you know, the wonderful capitalists who gave us killer smog and rivers on fire, just like they're doing right now in China. Polluters are policing themselves in China. The results?

Thanks from Camelot

The EPA needs a large budget cut. Then they will not have the resources to harass Americans regarding who own the rainwater that falls off of their roofs, fining and harassing Americans who build ponds in their backyards, etc., and focus on why the Department was created.

I'm just trying to imagine what the eventual backlash is going to look like.

Rainwater collection prohibitions are state not federal laws so cutting the EPA's budget largely won't affect that.

Then WHY isn't the new boss of the EPA doing EXACTLY that? This thread is all about what he IS doing and not what he SHOULD be doing.
You see any mention of rainwater or fucking backyard Koi ponds?

I think most of the cases have been initiated by the states and locals. The EPA has rainwater laws. These laws are just another example of mission creep that will lead to the organization's downfall.

I can't find anti-rainwater collecting laws, but I found this from the EPA:

Soak Up the Rain: Rain Barrels

From an EPA website: https://www3.epa.gov/watersense/outd...ter_reuse.html

Quote:
Rain barrels or cisterns can be used to collect rainwater for irrigation and other outdoor water uses. Commercial rooftop collection systems are available, but simply diverting your downspout into a covered barrel is an easy, low-cost approach. Some states might have laws that prohibit collection of rainwater, so be sure to check with your state's water resource agency before implementing a rainwater collection system.
