France set to ban sale of petrol and diesel vehicles by 2040

Any chance this is a move for Trump to ponder?

It's too bad what should be a science topic has become a political football.

I guess Macron is on the blue team.

Quote:
France is set to ban the sale of any car that uses petrol or diesel fuel by 2040, in what the ecology minister called a "revolution".

Nicolas Hulot announced the planned ban on fossil fuel vehicles as part of a renewed commitment to the Paris climate deal.

He said France planned to become carbon neutral by 2050.

Hybrid cars make up about 3.5% of the French market, with pure electric vehicles accounting for just 1.2%.

It is not yet clear what will happen to existing fossil fuel vehicles still in use in 2040.

Mr Hulot, a veteran environmental campaigner, was appointed by new French President Emmanuel Macron. Mr Macron has openly criticised US environmental policy, urging Donald Trump to "make our planet great again".

President Trump's decision to withdraw from the Paris climate change agreement in June was explicitly named as a factor in France's new vehicle plan.

"France has decided to become carbon neutral by 2050 following the US decision," Mr Hulot said, adding that the government would have to make investments to meet that target.

The more of Europe that goes green. The less energy they need to import.

That's bad news for Russia

And Trump, the Congress, or Putin for that matter, can do anything about it.

Sucks to be a gas economy when you can't sell much gas.

The developed world is going green. The U.S. does not call the shots anymore. The Republican oligarch's are only regional players in today's world.

Do you really believe that's going to happen? Green energy has not progressed to the point of replacing oil. What the French government says, and what the people allow them to do is two different subjects.

As it becomes a more viable substitute the more society uses it. Artificially injecting it into the society has negative results.

This is what our socialist friends do not understand. I do not know anyone who would not like to see fossil fuels replaced it is just that it is not an economicly sound move just yet. But hey, people like elon love all of this propaganda.

Green energy is advancing by leaps and bounds, and the cheap fossil fuel is being burned off.
By 2040, the price advantage of green energy, including nuclear,(France produces 80% of it's electricity with nuclear, they are way ahead of us on that count ) will be pronounced.
