Yet another couple of problems with CO2

Scientists have discovered a double whammy of negatives from the rapid increase in CO2 in our atmosphere and therefore our oceans.

As so many deniers tout, the higher CO2 causes plants to grow more rapidly. but this means they have less time to absorb and metabolise minerals and so are becoming less nutritious.

For a different reason, the lower pH, phytoplankton are becoming less nutritional and they are the base of the entire ocean food chain. With their nutritional loss, all the way up to the fish we eat have less nutrients.

And not a mention of global warming.

You didn't read enough. The headline misses some important facts.

Quote:
A new study in Science Advances claims that more carbon dioxide in the atmosphere will cause food to become less nutritious. That very well might be true.
Their dispute is whether rice is an important source of nutrients for poor people. There are multiple sources that disagree with what your source says.

The global staple - Ricepedia

Quote:
White, long-grain rice: Raw, long-grain white rice is a relatively good source of energy, carbohydrates, calcium, iron, thiamin, pantothenic acid, folate and vitamin E, compared to maize, wheat and potatoes. It contains no vitamin C, vitamin A, beta-carotene, or lutein+zeazanthin, and is notably low in fiber.
Nutritional content - Ricepedia

Further, I always like to check sources, especially when they have really spiffy looking formats. Wikipedia describes the American Council on Science and Health as a "business friendly" organization and if you check the list of major donors, two very conservative groups are way up there.
