Gay Politics

I read where President Obama is going to extend federal benefits to same sex partners, at least partially motivated by mounting criticism from gay activists within the Democrat Party.

A true supporter of gay rights wouldn't need to be nagged and cajoled. "Here's your alms, now STFU for a while."

So, I'll ask the same question I ask of blacks who blindly support the Democratic Party (even though blacks are statisticaly more conservative than whites) .. why the Dems? I have not seen the Democratic Party doing anything for blacks as a group, and I find the grouping of people by race (as the Dems like to do) as being somewhat racist.

Certainly, gays as a group have a voice in the Democratic Party, but do you really like being grouped? Those in power in the Democratic Party have not exactly stood up for gay marriage. Most say they are against it.

I thought about laying out a little trap with this post. I figured someone would immediately reply "why would we join a party with religious constituents that call us sinners and tell us we're going to hell?" Great point, except that I would come back with the Dem's odd love for the Muslims. There is no more anti-gay religion than Islam (and its not exactly friendly to women either). Yet, the Democrats are always reaching out to Islam.

I hate all this grouping of everyone and I think over the long haul it is the biggest threat to our country, and I will blame the Democrats and the media for our country's disintegration, which I think is going to happen. They love fragmenting us into groups in order to win elections or to make headlines. The problem is that they have no methodology for putting us back together again.

The media anoints "black leaders", most of whom don't speak for us. They are race baiters and show boats.

All this grouping by "liberals" (who are really fake liberals) leads to great hypocrisy, especially when you put political correctness into the fray. Rappers call women "ho" and "bitch" all the time, yet there is little media or NOW backlash because they don't want to be perceived as criticizing blacks or "free speech." Let Sean Hannity come out and call women bitches and ho's and see what happens.

Sexual harassment is another example. When President Clinton (who I like) admitted his actions against Monica Lewinsky, where was the uproar from NOW? It was non-existent for the most part because they consider President Clinton to be an ally. Its classic "my team, your team."

This is why I love the Libertarian Party. Its not about the government. Its not about the group that you are in. Its about YOU. I'm not Tyrone, representative of black southern male law enforcement officers. I'm Tyrone. It's not Tristan, representative of the white gay yankee thespian community. Its Tristan.

Of course, some of this stems from the fact that the Libertarian Party attracts people who don't want the government telling them how to run their lives.

To a certain extent, I agree.

But I dont think that most DNC politicians are against gay marriage as much as they're not in favor of it...and in a charged issue, that is not a subtle difference.

I am not a Libertarian supporter because I believe the government of a nation of 300+million people has more responsiblities than the Libertarians want to give it authority to take care of. 100 years ago? Maybe. But not today. We need the government. We've just grown too large.

I agree with you Tyrone, but then again, I think to be successful a party has to publicly kiss some groups' ass. You just can't say, the government is just gonna do it's job, and you all gotta take care of your own business. everybody has something at stake in the government and there are a lot of asses in the air looking for lips to anoint them.

To be frank, I can't argue with most of what you said. The Dems are just the lesser of evils, and only because of the truly substantial evil of the Repubs.
