Even in the 'enlightened' state of California, if they don't dot every i and cross every t, their child is at risk, and even with all the additional paperwork and lawyer fees, their child will likely never enjoy the same privileges extended to the children (biological or adopted) of straight parents.

Forget about any kind of tax breaks or other incentives to keep their family together that other families enjoy without lifting a finger--deserving or not.

The lowest crack whore a-b-c welfare mother enjoys more inherent, assumed rights regarding her children than even the most upstanding and productive gay couples.

But regardless of all that, they have decided to make a huge sacrifice and spend the next 18 years raising what they hope will be a person who is an asset to the community, even with all the associated extra costs and risk.

If only it was as difficult for 'normal' people to start a family, we might not see so many abused and neglected children.

Nice post, Sapphire. Children do need parents as role models. I hope the child will have a great life ahead.

but to treat your comment with the seriousness it deserves...

I'm pretty sure they didn't intentionally set out to be either an interracial couple or the adopted parents of a mixed race child. It's not like you go to a showroom and pick out your favorite color and model.

Very true, but it's not like there was a showroom of partners and/or children to choose from and they opted for the most colorful 'paint job' over all other considerations.

Actually there is a showroom of partners, it's called life. And you can "opt out" of the adoption altogether. It's not like someone was pregnant or something. And even then, people argue for the right to "opt out" of that.

I guess I fail to see your point. Fine, have it your way. They intentionally set out to be as PC as possible.

Yes you do. I don't think "PC" had anything to do with anything.

It was 120 degrees out today and I had to spend a good part of the day outside. Certainly you can understand how one's sense of humor can be altered by such a climate.

OMG are you serious?

Am I the only one who actually reads the quotes in posts and assumes the poster is replying directly to the quote?

Am I the only one that can follow the sequence of a thread?

Do I really have to requote everything in order so you can understand the flow of this conversation?
