A success story, or a horror story, depending on your view

I know an interracial gay couple who recently adopted a mixed race infant, 3 months old. Even though they enjoy the support of all their friends, family and coworkers, they will still need to spend thousands of dollars on lawyers and paperwork to ensure their rights as parents. Even in the 'enlightened' state of California, if they don't dot every i and cross every t, their child is at risk, and even with all the additional paperwork and lawyer fees, their child will likely never enjoy the same privileges extended to the children (biological or adopted) of straight parents.

Forget about any kind of tax breaks or other incentives to keep their family together that other families enjoy without lifting a finger--deserving or not.

The lowest crack whore a-b-c welfare mother enjoys more inherent, assumed rights regarding her children than even the most upstanding and productive gay couples.

But regardless of all that, they have decided to make a huge sacrifice and spend the next 18 years raising what they hope will be a person who is an asset to the community, even with all the associated extra costs and risk.

If only it was as difficult for 'normal' people to start a family, we might not see so many abused and neglected children.

"Normal people" can start a family without any concern of tax breaks, recognition, or any of that. They just have sex and kids pop up. There's a whole thread where other people argue for the "abnormal" right to have in-consequential sex just like the "abnormal" people in the OP. So I guess sometimes you gotta put up with extra sh*t to do abnormal stuff.

If popping out kids with no thought or effort expended towards their health and welfare is normal, I'll take abnormal any day.

There is no such thing as inconsequential sex.

Welcome to how nature works. Without our supposed intelligence, an organism pops out offspring and nature has other controls to limit population. It's not done by "choice".

In the context that we are discussing it, I beg to differ.

but to treat your comment with the seriousness it deserves...

I'm pretty sure they didn't intentionally set out to be either an interracial couple or the adopted parents of a mixed race child. It's not like you go to a showroom and pick out your favorite color and model.

Both of those did take a certain degree of intent. You can opt out of both.
