Bryan Fischer: Anti-Gay Groups Are “Unstoppable” When They Call Homosexuality A Health Risk

August 05, 2011 4:00 pm ET by Carlos Maza

During the August 4 edition of his American Family Association (AFA) radio show, Focal Point, Bryan Fischer claimed that anti-gay groups are “infallible” and “unstoppable” when they promote the smear that LGBT people are disease-ridden threats to public health:

FISCHER: I think this is where our argument's infallible. We are unstoppable when we talk about the health risks of homosexual behavior. They have no comeback for this. They have no refutation for this. There's nothing they can do with it. So that's why I think this is one of the most important bases for us to argue the issue of homosexuality is the danger that homosexual conduct poses to human health.

Fischer is referring to the anti-gay myth that homosexuality is a dangerous lifestyle, a myth that Fischer himself consistently promotes.

This “infallible” claim is anything but. While a recent study from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) found that LGBT youth are more likely to engage in unhealthy risk behaviors, its author also made clear that these unhealthy behaviors are closely linked to the “stigma, discrimination, and victimization” faced by LGBT youth.

Kathleen Sebelius, Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, tried to make sure that people like Fischer couldn’t misconstrue the study’s findings, to no avail:

[W]e know that these behaviors are not a result of who these young people are, they are a result of the discrimination, bullying, violence and poor relationships at home they can experience in their day to day lives. That's a tragedy. And that's why we need to continue to build support for LGBT youth and create the protective environments needed to reduce these behaviors. [emphasis added]

In his rant, Fischer highlights the FDA’s current prohibition on allowing gay men to donate blood due to fears about the spread of HIV. The American Red Cross, America’s Blood Centers, and the American Association of Blood Banks all support lifting the ban. Seventeen U.S. senators, including Sen. John Kerry (D-MA) have also come out in opposition to the ban, calling it “outdated.”

Fischer’s citing of the ban does a lot more to demonstrate the need for the irrational policy’s repeal than it does to prove his point about homosexuality.

Fischer also references a recent CDC survey which found that the rate of HIV infections among gay black men has increased since 2006, even though the rate of new HIV infections in the U.S. overall has remained relatively stable. Again, those involved in the study pointed to homophobia as a major factor contributor to new infections. Dr. Jonathan Mermin, director of the CDC’s Division of HIV/AIDS Prevention said:

We cannot allow the health of a new generation of gay men to be lost to a preventable disease. It's time to renew the focus on HIV among gay men and confront the homophobia and stigma that all too often

accompany this disease.

In other words, a major factor contributing to the “danger” that Fischer claims homosexuality poses to human health is… well… people like Bryan Fischer.

Same propaganda that worked so well for the Nazis against the Jews. That was the big smear that worked back then, too - that Jews were unsanitary and unhealthy. And, of course, in America, there has long been the stigma that black people aren't clean and cause disease coming from the bigots.

Sadly, it's a condemnation that works.

LOL. It's NOT them, it's pretty much the rest of the world. That's bullshit. If it were that simple, it wouldn't have taken thousands of years for widespread acceptance to come about.

Just a reminder so everyone knows just what sort of hate group Bryan Fischer speaks for:

They are not unstoppable in this line of reasoning, it hasn't worked for them. They have been on this campaign since the early nineties and it has not stopped equal rights for GLBT people from marching forward. We don't have to refute it, we can ignore it, because this measure is not consistently applied to other "behaviors", and that is what they are attacking, a behavior, NOT a sexual orientation. There are many GLBT people who do not have AIDS or HIV or other STD's because we have not engaged in unsafe behavior, just as there are many straight people who do have HIV and other STD's because they are promiscuous and irresponsible...just as there are many straight kids who have children out of wedlock because they are not responsible. To try to use any of this to somehow prevent Americans from equal rights under the law fails miserably.

For many people, the gay thing has hit home. The reason why the numbers are shifting and polls illustrate this rapid change from acceptance and support for gays and same sex marriage is because more people are coming out of the closet younger and younger without fear. Many people know someone gay or have a gay child, sibling, parent, uncle, aunt, teacher, doctor, hair dresser and the list goes on and on. It is personalized, which is why FRC and NOM and these other hate organizations are failing in their mission. That prayer-a-palooza bigotfest in Texas was a failure and is widely being seen as a radical fringe rally of people on the edge. I think this hurt Rick Perry, and I am grateful for that, because the last thing we need is another evangelical nutbag in The White House fostering this sick and disgusting way of thinking.

We are vastly approaching a time when saying bad things about gay people will be like saying bad things about someone from a different race...oh the homophobes will be there, but they will be relegated to silence or be vilified in the court of public opinion as they should if they open their yaps. We see it now, careers are being ruined when people open their yaps and start hating on gays. Fines are levied, people are shamed, and they never really bounce back from it. Buh bye bigots, hope you enjoyed the flight, you have been permanently grounded.

I guess you don't know that the percentage of gay people is much lower than the percentage of non-gay people. Therefore, they would always be in the minority and subject to the whims of the majority. At least until the dream of what justice could be achieved by the founding of this nation and the writing of the Constitution came about.

All you need to know is that this article was written by Carlos Maza, a bigoted homosexual propagandist.

No surprise he blames everyone else for the proliferation of AIDS among homosexuals and the fact the ARC doesn't want their blood donations.

No doubt he believes the CDC are a bunch of homophobic bigots! Anything to avoid facing the truth
