Something I didn't realize.

So Tris i just found out that Abraham Lincoln was gay, or at least bisexual, crap; I'll never be able to look at his statue again with out thinking of this fact. Not that I've got anything against a person being gay, it just changes my perspective of him.
Thanks from coke

History believes not. This came from the fact that he slept in the same bed with a law partner to save money which was a common occurrence at that time.

James Buchanan, who was 15th President, is considered to have been gay. There is some fairly provocative letters between him and...I refuse to google but I cant remember his name either. But anyway, Buchanan many think was gay

Oh my god, what this mean if I have pennies in my pocket?
Does that mean I'm putting a gay man's head next to my happy stick?

Although, if you think about, Washington didn't have any teeth, just saying...
Thanks from Sabcat and coke

The whole LIincoln-was-gay thing came about because of one man's research into his life, where he found that Lincoln and another man often shared the same bed and exchanged florid and extravagantly worded letters to each other. Neither of these things were remotely unusual for a time when men weren't scared that people were going to look at them and their actions and scream, "fag!" It was also because Lincoln and his wife did not share a bedroom - again, a very commonplace occurrence at the time.

I don't think he was gay. He had a good friend. And when he missed him, he told him so. Period.

I would be far less sure about some of the 'gang' members of various gangs who rode for years together and slept together. Seems far more likely that relationships could develop under those highly tense circumstances.

It's a nonsense meme.
It grabs attention, but there is nothing conclusive one way or the other.
You could say that about nearly any historical figure, especially one who is far enough in the past that all the witnesses have died, and especially since if Lincoln was gay, he would have taken steps to avoid that becoming public knowledge. So was Lincoln straight or was he just good at hiding his homosexuality.
You've got a much stronger argument that Jesus was gay.
And wouldn't that be a game changer.....

Actually Tris, I was watching a program on H2 about history it was called "Ten things you don't know about." or something like that. They gave 3 or 4 examples of men Lincoln was supposed to have slept with in the biblical sense. The last one was a army officer that he spent many nights with at a residence in Washington, something like a Camp David, this was noted in a lady's journal form that time. Another time he was living with a man in Illinois or Indiana and after the man told him he was moving out of state, the man had to make sure all the razors were removed from their residence that night for fear of a suicide attempt. Check it out it's a really interesting TV series.
