Congrats Ohio and Higher Learning

Mr Linky: Cedarville University Embraces Ohio's Campus Carry Law, Arms Faculty

Beginning August 1, full-time faculty and staff possessing concealed carry permits will be able to carry guns for defense of themselves and their students at Cedarville University.

The school is located at Dayton, Ohio, and late last week their board of trustees voted to embrace campus carry.

Outstanding Decision.

I hope their aim with a gun is better than their ability to write a midterm paper.

What do their mid-term papers look like?
Thanks from guy39

The ones that I help my spouse grade (I was an English prof, so I go over papers for grammar and syntax and then hand them over for the 'real' grading of the ideas and addressing of premises posed on papers) are absolutely deplorable.

Easily 1/4 of them are so poorly written they are literally unintelligible.

And we're talking college junior, seniors, and some grad students. The idea they are also carrying concealed weapons and legally permitted to fire them is terrifying.

You have actual knowledge then. I cannot argue with that. I will state that their command of the written English language is not an anomaly based on my experience.

I have an acquaintance who has a Ph.D. in history and has writes two self-published books. I am certain you would pull your hair out if you ever had to grade one of his essays about history. His writing is that poor.

Our daughter-in-law is a history professor at the U of WY in Laramie. She tells us stories that would set your hair on fire. The latest is about PARENTS calling her and asking why she doesn't "LIKE" their "child".....because their "child" called them crying and poor thing said the prof gave them a "D" on their term paper or final exam. These are 20 year olds who don't complete assignments, don't follow the assignments, miss the deadlines and then tell our DIL that 'it's not fair'.
Blows my mind!

Heh heh - Jon just got an email, copied to the department chair and to the dean of the department, stating the final exam was too hard and that he expected too much.

Over 50% of the class got an A. (rare, granted. LOL)

edited to add: Jon had students who FAILED his mid term - it was an OPEN BOOK EXAM!!!!!!
