No Good Texan With a Gun?

the recent shooting took place in texas, in a church. nearly 50 people in the most redneck gun toting state, all god fearing christians, exactly the type who -stereotypically at least- are the most likely to be armed. but nobody was. in that entire group, nobody was carrying.

there is an argument that we need guns for self defence, that the best way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun. just seems that this argument isnt actually followed by those people who put it forward. i bet some of the victims of this shooting have made that very argument in the past. so, why were they not carrying?

for the record, i am not blaming the victims in any way, i am not being critical of those people. i am being critical of the argument that we need lots of guns around to prevent bad people doing shooting sprees. because thats the situation you currently have, loose gun laws, and still nobody is carrying and there is no good guy with a gun to stop the bad guy. so if there isnt any good guy with a gun, what does it matter if gun laws are tighter? you arent actually losing anything.
Thanks from Camelot

The guy across the street engaged the shooter with a rifle, then got into another persons truck and they chased the shooter till the shooter crashed. Reports are mixed as to whether the shooter killed himself or the guy with his rifle placed one between the gap in the shooter's body armor.

It is possible that that church did not permit guns, haven't heard either way though. Church's, etc., are allowed to prohibit concealed carry in Texas, and advertise such. See: For the record: San Antonio archdiocesan firearms policy
