Treating a cold

Getting sleep is vital. NyQuil is effective, but gives me a drugged feeling the next day. I very rarely drink alcohol so one shot of whiskey knocks me out pretty good and I don't feel it the next day.

Whiskey works for a sore throat if ya gargle it.

I am 62 years old. Yesterday I bought a. Bottle of whiskey for the second time in my life. I spent a while staring at all those bottles of hard liquor, wondering who buys all this crap? I mean really how rich and dumb do you have to be to buy pineapple flavored whiskey?
Thanks from McCoy

Actually good old Hydrogen Peroxide is infinitely better as a gargle. Used at the first sign of a sore throat and you can often head off or at least minimize how long you'll be sick.

Whiskey and honey makes sense. If you're too lazy to stir it up yourself that's your business.

If you're drinking for flavor, whiskey seems a poor choice to me. I've never learned to enjoy the feeling of inebriation.

Sometimes you need to gargle a lot. Just don't spit.

Ditto for vinegar, and sometime it can knock out a bad sore throat.

When I feel a cold starting I always eat fresh oranges which makes it go away or at least lessens severity. Drinking orange juice or taking vitamin C pills does not have the same effect on me.

I should mention that the last time I got a cold was when I worked in a manufacturing plant and have not had one since I retired in 2011.

To put myself to sleep I do mind experiments with my eyes closed mostly concerning Astronomy, and mostly black holes, magnatars, pulsars and neutron stars. The most extreme objects in the Universe.
