Single payer costs 40% less, to deliver the same outcomes as our current private insurance based system.

The cost of medical care rises every year, at some point a 40% savings is something we just won't be able to ignore.
And we all saved 2500 bucks on our premiums, got to keep our plans, got to keep our Dr's, yada yada yada. You go ahead and spout the nonsense
Thanks from webguy4 and Sabcat

How do you know you will be one of the ones who can afford it? What happens if you turn out to be one of the ones that can't afford it?
People that need charity should ask for charity, not extort at the point of a gun.

US Medical care used to cost just as much as Canadian health care, then Canada adopted Medicare. Now Canada spends just 60% as much per capita.

We spend nearly $10,000 per capita on health care.
Every country that spends over $2500 per capita has a longer life expectancy.

Do you spending more to get less?

Almost 30 years ago, my friend, who at the time was Chief Actuary of a Blue Cross, told me the US insurance system was in an unsustainable death spiral, and that single payer would be the only way for the country to afford health care.

Once they have you stabilized, out the door you go if you can't pay.

THAT is the whole debate. How many people die each year of what should have been treatable illnesses or injuries simply because they can't afford to see a doctor ?? How many people wind up as emergency cases at the ER because they couldn't afford to go to the walk in clinic ??

You cut yourself working around the house. You SHOULD have gone and gotten a few stitches and a round of antibiotics. But since you didn't have insurance or $500 cash, you slap an bandage on it and hope for the best. Four days later you wake up with a 103 temp and the whole area around the cut is red and extremely tender to the touch. NOW you go to the ER !! What should have been a few hundred dollars at a doctors office is now a $10,000 ER visit and maybe a couple days in the hospital since they now need IV antibiotics to cure the massive blood infection caused by the original cut.

ER's see similar stories every day. And hospitals wind up having write off most of those costs. If the person couldn't afford a few hundred at the doctors office, they're never going to pay off an ER visit.

50% of all bankruptcies in this county are due to medical bills. Half of those are people with insurance !!!

We do have some of the best medical care available IF you can afford it !!!
i have never been to america, but i have spoken to a number of doctors who have. they report that in america you see things you just dont see in other western countries, but that you do see in third world countries. complications of chronic illness and late stages of disease that in ANY OTHER WESTERN COUNTRY ON EARTH would have been prevented by early treatment. in america, just like afganistan or peru or the congo, medical care simply doesnt exist for a lot of people.
