I see the difference but I don't care. It's not about what is more moral, it's about what works. A centrally run charity funded by a populace of 300 million through taxes is better equipped to deal with poverty in this country. You don't like it because you don't get to see people scared you may turn them down? Boo hoo. There are bigger issues to worry about.

Besides, the thing about charity is you're supposed to do it even if they are ungrateful. That's because it's not about you, it's about them.
it's not that I need people to be grateful to me, it's that people need to feel gratitude for their own moral well being.

Irrelevant. You can't risk their ability to live simply because you think it will build character. If they aren't feeling gratitude then they're a piece of shit and it's on them.

have you ever in your life been thanked by someone for their food stamps? or rent subsidy? or for their "unearned" earned income credit? or their obamaphone?

never happens. they just think that stuff comes from the government and doesn't represent anybody's work.

Yes, and their stupid. Did I ever say the majority of welfare queens weren't? But I don't give a damn, because gratitude is not a condition for charity. You feed and pay for their rent because you can't just let them die. It has nothing to do with whether or not they're valuable as a human being.

No....

Damn, those "conservatives" must be right about our schools having been dumbed down, and the funny part? They've been dumbed down and don't even know it.
Think of capital as cattle...and you herd that money to work FOR you rather than having the cattle being the end result...like penning up the cattle you have and just keeping them penned up. Same with money. It does no good just under your mattress...

Socialism

You have two cows. You keep one and society forces you give one to your neighbor.

Communism

You have two cows. The government takes them both and provides you with milk.

Fascism

You have two cows. The government takes them and sells you the milk.

Bureaucracy

You have two cows. The government takes them both, shoots one, milks the other, pays you for the milk, and then pours it down the drain.

Capitalism

You have two cows. You sell one and buy a bull.

Corporate

You have two cows. You sell one, force the other to produce the milk of four cows and then act surprised when it drops dead.

Democracy

You have two cows. The government taxes you to the point that you must sell them both in order to support a man in a foreign country who has only one cow which was a gift from your government.

A CHRISTIAN:

You have two cows. You keep one and give one to your neighbor.

A SOCIALIST:

You have two cows. The government takes one and gives it to your neighbor.

A REPUBLICAN:

You have two cows. Your neighbor has none. So what?

A DEMOCRAT:

You have two cows. Your neighbor has none. You feel guilty for being successful. You vote people into office who tax your cows, forcing you to sell one to raise money to pay the tax. The people you voted for then take the tax money and buy a cow and give it to your neighbor. You feel righteous.

A FASCIST:

You have two cows. The government seizes both and sells you the milk. You join the underground and start a campaign of sabotage.

Funny...

Believe it or not...my use of the cow metaphor is from an essay by Adam Smith in the late 1700's...

you work in a factory, some people work hard, some people are slackers.

time to cut spending before the factory goes out of business, who do you fire, the hard workers? or the slackers?

america is falling down the predictable path of democracies. once people learn to vote themselves benefits from the public trough the fall is inevitable.

as the fall happens you can count on two things from me, I'll say "I'm against it", and I'll say, "I told you so".
