In the last presidential election the bulk of these unaffiliated did not vote for either Trump or Clinton. Meaning that only 26% of the electorate voted for Trump and 26% voted for Clinton. As a result, 90 million did not vote for Trump or Clinton and that only 60 million elected Trump.

Combine the two political parties together and the political parties represent the majority of the electorate who marginalize the larger unaffiliated group than either one of the political parties. So a lot of those who show up at these town hall meetings are not liberals. Many are unaffiliated who live in the same districts as Republicans and many were former Republicans like me who was actually an elected conservative common councilman who turned unaffiliated.

The 90 million unaffiliated voters represent the middle-of-the-road centrists who have given up on the polarized sport-team like governing of the two party system. Unfortunately we cannot stop either political party from destroying what we value most because both political parties are entrenched in supporting the opposing factions of a multi-national corporate oligarchy that intervenes in government to get government to intervene in business to the advantage of the politically influential business over its competitor, small business, its customers, its employees, taxpayers and the electorate. It is the opposing factions of this oligarchy that stalemate and obstruct congress by owning as few as 51 Senators. That oligarchy is now entrenched in the President's cabinet and advisors.
Excellent analysis.

The two-party system is diseased. As far as I'm concerned, those who identify as socialists or anarchists are also diseased.

Maybe the true silent majority - the centrists - will wake up one of these days.

I once met a liberal who was tolerant of and even willing to listen to contrasting opinions.

But the year was 1972.

You have to an actual opinion first.

This issue will never be solved regardless of case by case examination. To many factors.

One thing for sure is over the last few decades parental rights have been eroded in the process.

you mean like the right to abuse and neglect them?
Or to force conformity to your pov or disown them for being different?
Those rights?

you are right in the sense that a common pathway of dealing with an underage pregnancy, a standard method, a universal protocol that we can learn and apply to everyone, will never happen. each case however can be solved individually. then the next case can be solved, using its own unique solution. thats what happens currently. i think it would be a mistake to change the current situation

i guess thats true, in a number of areas. like, you no longer have the right to beat your child. but paternal rights have also been eroded. husbands no longer have the right to beat and rape their wife the way they used to. and childrens rights have been enhanced and protected, thats a good thing. i hope you arent advocating going back to 'the good old days'.

remember, if the parents are sensible and mature, and have their childs best interests at heart, the laws become irrelevant because everyone just does the right thing. the laws only come into play if there is disagreement over what to do.

Actually conservatives have been fairly reasonable. It's the fringe who seems to be pulling us into our verbal civil war. I can understand supporting their candidate of choice but supporting Trump's completely insane tweeting, unfounded accusations, unqualified cabinet members and crazy, juvenile behavior goes beyond support and into twilight zone territory.

It's obvious that the conservative GOP hate every minute of this presidency, but what can they do other than sit on their hands and bite their tongues. They've got a train wreck and they know it, but they can't stop the runaway disaster just waiting to happen. After this whole phone tapping thingy, some of them were almost speechless, but the fringe jumped right in with their "YEAH--I bet Obama DID IT--you betcha."

Funny heading - Americans as a whole tend to be low on irony, and right-wing ones can only manage it in Japanese!
